I like the power, but the timing seems a bit high to me if your compression is stock.

I usually have 10 to 14 degrees in these with stock bottom end engines. I've never gotten to complete a run with that much timing and knock sensors working on stock compression and 10lbs of boost. could just be variance in the reluctor/crank trigger wheel.

Josh.

Re: Official Vortech HP/TQ/mods thread

The timing has been backed off because the car was making too much power for the stock shortblock. I'm running the stock 99 GT engine harness (adapted to the 4valve motor) and stock (reflashed obviously) 99 GT ECU on this car and I don't believe the knock sensors are used because of that. I'll run race gas with the this tune on the track. We didn't run it again to see what the power was with the timing backed off a couple degrees.

Stock bottom end: yes

Head unit: v2 SC

Pulley size and boost level: 3.33 6 rib and 9.5lbs

Fuel system: 340 pump and 60# injectors

Tuner/Dyno shop info: Adam Maurer S&M Motorsports Cleves Ohio

Other notable mods: longtubes, ported stock runner intake, open blower(no filter), TB, 96 cams Dot-to-Dot, 4.10s, and procharger 3 core intercooler

RWHP/RWTQ:480+/430+ on a brand spanking new mustang dyno... Didn't ask about the timing but AFR was at 11.0 at that time.

Car performed well. On the street, made really good pulls with a c6 that made ~430. Id imagine the traps would have been between 123-125 if i had the rpm for it at the end. Car has since blown up haha

New motor has a smidge less compression but also going with a 3.125 pulley, KB BAP, 3.73 gear, and i think my new blower is an s trim. Oh.. and a built Promotion Tr3650 that i was able to put 8 miles on before it blew up (no i wasn't beating on my car with a new tranny, clutch, PP and flywheel haha.. blew up coasting to a stop).

Re: Official Vortech HP/TQ/mods thread

I have a question for all involved. I love seeing the hp numbers. It's very impressive. My Mach has decent street tires, 410's and a converter and turns 12.8 quarter miles times with terrible DA here in Phoenix.
As near as I can guess a Vortec with intercooler would run $7k+ by the time it was tuned. Is it really woth the money? I don't see any quarter mile times posted. I'm not complaining about big hp, but does all that money just buy you an impressive dyno printout?
I believe there would need to be a lot more money spent on suspension upgrades before any of that power could be put to the pavement.

I put together a used kit and i spent about $3.5k. My DAs are worse than yours, at 7,000. Best NA time was 13.1@104. With the blower I'm at 11.9@120 right now. Doing an auto swap and I think I'll run mid 11s after.

Cool!
Has anyone found out the hard way just how much boost our all aluminum 4v can take considering the weaker than Cobra internals? I understand a bad tune can take out the motor no matter what the boost level.

I'm getting a V3 Si installed later this month. I'll post numbers once I get them.
