Re: Ask A Police Officer
What are the pros and cons of being a police officer? You don't have to answer these in a tedius manner, but specifcs would be greatly appreciated because I am considering law enforcement as a possible career path.
Also, what would be the best or the better route to go as far as education goes to use towards being in law enforcement? Criminal Justice? Sociology? What? One last thing, speaking hypothetically, what would be the best/better route as far as education goes if I wanted to become FBI or something? Any ideas? |
Re: Ask A Police Officer
Greatest job in the world! It takes a special person to be willing to risk their life for a complete stranger. A quote from WWII sums it up best for me:
"We sleep safe in our beds, because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon those who would do us harm." Some of the cons: shift work (some people don't do well on midnight turn, etc), schedule (weekends, holidays), stress (high divorce and suicide rates) Education: Always a great idea. My department is the only one in my area that requires a 4 year college degree for full-time officers. Many departments don't require a degree, but reward officers with pay incentives. Also, a degree makes you much more marketable, and those with an education tend to rise through the ranks more quickly than those without. Obviously, a degree in criminal justice is the most common. Most federal agencies require a degree, and a degree in a language is very sought after. Spanish, Arabic, Middle Eastern studies. Good luck with your decision. |

I will caution you that the wording may be up to interpretation...I just recently found out that although the law in VA hasn't changed, but it is now interpreted to mean that the line must be disconnected at the bottle...under the hood is not good enough. |
Re: Ask A Police Officer
I was wondering if someone could tell me what a tint fine is in GA? My parents were driving the car and got stopped and busted for tint. Well apparently now in GA you can only have 32% ONLY on the ENTIRE car, where as before it was fronts were only had limit laws.
And what happens if I just pay the fine and do not fix the tint? Does the fine increase as I get ticketed? Thanks! |

In AL we have statewide power but you would have to go through whatever county's court system you were in at the time.

Got a ticket for pulling a U-turn on a 4 lane highway at a stoplight where no signs were posted. How does that work?

Re: Ask A Police Officer
Ah they gave me 72 hours to pay it. I went down there and asked them to explain what I did wrong and where I was at and all that stuff, and the cop kinda laughed and he basically said I have no idea why you were pulled over but he would have a talk with the guy that did it.
So it was thrown out without even goin to court so thats cool. Kinda bad that the cop didn't know the law or whatever, but glad it was all worked out and i didnt have to fork over 50 bux. |

Well it ain't BS but whatever. Maybe the guy had it out for me, I don't know, but I don't have to pay a 50 dollar fine so its over and done with.

Re: Ask A Police Officer
For any FL LEO or State Trooper:
Is it illegal to drive barefoot in Florida?? My 17 year old argues this one with me all the time. I won't let him, and he doesn't, but he says it's not illegal. My neighbors say it is. Nothing on the FL. DMV website that I could see. And, I have seen the internet info/story where somebody asked all 50 states about it.... but that was back in 1994. Just wanna find something in writing. Thanks! |
