Re: NASCAR thread

Has anybody seen the new Dodge Busch series COT for next year? I was looking at this weeks NASCAR Scene and this picture was in it:

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...sting_0002.jpg

That front end actually looks like a Challenger! I'm in shock that a "stock" car actually has identifying features of a real car! What do they think this is, 1987?!? :smokin:

I saw a shot of the rear of the car, and couldn't believe it...it actually looks like the rear of a real Challenger!?! What are the thinking, making stock cars look like actual STOCK CARS?!?
Wonder which Mustang Ford will bring to the party? 2009?2010? Shelby GT? GT500? Calif.Spec.? Or will there be a new NASCAR pony at dealerships next year?

If it actually happens,
expect to see full grandstands at Nationwide races,
and plenty of empty seats at cup races.

So was I.

Also, saw a story on the theft of three Roush/Yates engines. Worth about $50K each, there is a reward for information leading to the recovery of the engines and arrest of the thieves. Personally I'd settle for a few laps in the car with Carl Edwards...and maybe they could throw in a Stage 3 or a BlackJack...

Re: NASCAR thread

Very impressive with team Roush. Biffle has to be one of the classiest guys out there, good for him. Johnson and Gordon were strong today but not as strong as those three.

As for the opposite of Biffle in personality, to bad for Dumbo and his Toyletta. :23: I remember a couple of weeks ago DW with his typical nose up Busch and Toyletta's :butt: saying it was Kyle's to win. Well DW, I hope you choke on those words.

As for Toyletta, how in the world did Michael Waltrip wind up in the top ten.

Great day for the Biff. :worship:

I missed the whole thing and will have to see the highlights later.

We took most of the day to do some indoor karting. :smokin:

Vid below, my 10 year old is on the red kart 28.5 second laps, the next kart is blue with my 25 year old son 27.3 second laps, and I'm on the last blue kart turning 25.8 second laps. This clip is when we all bunched up before sorting out in the opposite order. It was a great day, I ran 12 races that are 8 minutes each and spent 30 minutes on the drift track. :23:

Re: NASCAR thread

One of the best ways to learn to drive hard is to drive a loose kart. The best way to do that was a wet track, the best way now is a polished track. This was a short indoor track for the kids with the red karts. Now it's called the drift track and thanks to it my 10 year old has cut his lap times just over a second. :worship:

It may look easy but trust me .............. it just looks that way. My 10 year old has been karting for 3 years and has several hundred laps under his belt on the large track. Today was his first laps on the polished track.

Vid below:

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://s157.photobucket.com/flash/player.swf?file=http://vid157.photobucket.com/albums/t44/geoffav/webstuff/100_6522.flv"></embed>

It's really kind of strange. The closer to the wall you get the less scuffs and rubber you find. The feel is much like the wall has a magnetic attraction for the car. If you come out of the inner loop with some speed the whole front straight and first 2 turns are ALL drift. Or you could grab the wall at 3 key points, it's counter to reason to go further to the inside the faster you're going. If you are up to speed and get on the straight with the car pointed down the track you will never make the turns without using the wall or getting off the gas.

The other fun thing is the weight advantage the thin among us have on the regular track is GONE on the polished track. It's a joy to run hard side-by-side on that track. I've gone 10 laps that way with my son without the karts touching. :23:

I think that was more Edwards being like the kid who falls down and then gets up and say's I meant to do that. I think it was trying to save face. He went into that turn pretty hard and darn near held that car for the win. It was a ballsy move, my hat's off to him for trying. I liked Johnsons post race response to the move. He was quoted as saying I thought I had him and then all of a sudden where the world did he come from.

Great race and awesome results. Johnson for the win, Roush looking strong again, Gordon nice finish in 4th, and scrub nowhere to be seen. Oh and we must not forget the weekly wreck with Michael Waltrip.

Judging by how hard he went into the corner, I would say it was intentional. A driver of his caliber knows you can't get into the corner that hard and not tag the wall.

I'm still not sold on that it was intentional. I've played and replayed that move on Tivo. It was ballsy I'm just not sure with him in the chase as high as he is would take that chance of really wrecking the car and not crossing the finish line. I still think he thought he could hold the line.

But I will agree with you that the caliber of driver that he is, is among the top's in the sport.

Re: NASCAR thread

I thought it was 1 he!! of a move. Last lap you got to go and give it a try. Carl almost pulled it off . EARS would have just to Hit Jimmys car to gain control of the EARSMOBIL and take the win . Or wreak them both.

Re: NASCAR thread

Edwards had nothing to lose.
It was the last lap, and even if he crashed he would have been second.

Australian driver, Marcos Ambrose will be driving a Toiletta ext year.
Huge mistake on his part, as there is a connection to Waltrip racing.

Re: NASCAR thread

Well, it looks as if Brian "Pansy" France, determined to make Un-American cars win,
decided to let Toiletta circumvent the "no passing under the yellow line" rule.
On the last lap, Tony Toileta Stewart forced a Chebby below the line,
and yet gave the Toiletta the victory for finishing second.
According to ASSCAR's rules,
if you are forced below the line, the pass stands.
Except, of course,if a Toiletta can win.

falcongtho3 10-05-2008 07:01 PM

Re: NASCAR thread

Yeah...and somebody needs to take away Carls Playstation. He's learning to many bad habits with it!
Only good thing is the rest of of the chasers (other than Stewrat) had a less than stellar day as well.

Hopefully Jimmie can give drafting lessons again next week...

blown03Mach1 10-05-2008 07:32 PM

Re: NASCAR thread

That was a BS ruling by NASCAR. Ragan was forced below the line by Stewart and yet they screwed Ragan. I guess the NASCAR officials were afraid that if they did not rule in Stewart's favor, he would come to the trailer and punch them...

Keeps getting worse and worse. So much so that NASCAR has just about lost this fan.

birdman941 10-05-2008 07:48 PM

Re: NASCAR thread

I guess if you drive a toiletta,
the rules do not apply to you.

ylopony 10-05-2008 08:37 PM

Re: NASCAR thread

I agree, BS decision on Nascar on the pass. Stewrat was blocking and drove him below the yellow line. Ragan should be celebrating his first career win this evening.

I stated earlier in the year and I'll say it again here, I absolutely hate restrictor plate racing. It sure sells commercial's on tv but is not what racing should be all about. It's never fun watching chase contenders end up they way most of them did today.

I'm sure many of you Roush fans can finally agree with Jimmy Johnson. He stated earlier in the week that he don't like restrictor plate races in the chase. After watching Edwards take out his teammates Biffle & Kenseth along with several others I'm sure they would agree as well.

birdman941 10-05-2008 08:55 PM

Re: NASCAR thread

ASSCAR is slowly driving away the people that made it
what it once was.
COT = POS with ricer wings
Toiletta should not be in an American sport
Different rules for different mfr's and teams
Someone inside, such as a team or Mfr. or both needs to make a stand.
Have a bunch of teams or all Mfr's just not show up to a race,
and watch them explain that away.
It needs to be done.
