Re: Eaton Swap.....
I am currently collecting parts to start my eaton swap and I ran into an 03-04cobra ecu and was wondering if any of you guys run the cobra computer or if it doesn't really matter what you use.

Re: Eaton Swap.....
most run the stock with a tune

Re: Eaton Swap.....
Can anyone clarify something for me about the alternator wiring. I thought I did it right but read something earlier that has me questioning it.
I took the factory plug and the new plug and basically oriented them so that the clip was on the top (the release clip) and then swapped over the two outside wires. In one of the write ups it was stated they should be reversed. Of course the pigtail from Ford is all black wiring so it's not like I could even attempt to match wires from the two. Also what did everyone do for the return spring on the throttle body? From what I could see most left it off. I finally got the last few things I needed. I have to still take care of the IAT2 plug, figure out the vacuum lines (without EGR and related sensors), build my dual FPDM harness and drop in the GT pumps. Bill |
Re: Eaton Swap.....
The guy at the dealer told me to just cut my plug and extend it. He said it was the same plug.

Re: Eaton Swap.....
started mine up today after loading the new tune, but things did not go well my gt pumps were wired in reverse so tank had to come back out, fixed that got tank back in after checking everything started up and run fine till i had to shut it down,my brand new 3.2" alt pully went to pieces, center hole in the pully is about an 1" big now, order a new 1 and sent the old 1 to the machineshopto be fixed, might get it back tomorrow fingers crossed:anger:

Re: Eaton Swap.....
where are you guys hooking up the water pump for the intercooler? also i read that you need to use the mach 1 gasket for the oil cooler but ive found that the mach and cobra have the same part #. needless to say i have a horrible leak. any ideas?

You mean the intercooler pump? I have mine wired so it comes on when the ignition is on.[/QUOTE]
ya. what did you wire it to though. i tried using the wiring for the egr crap that i deleted but couldnt find anything with enough voltage. keep blowing out fuses. |

Re: Eaton Swap.....
Mine is finally running.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A81v-6Ugm8 Waiting on a friend to help me bleed the brakes tomorrow then it's just a few lose ends. I'm hoping to drive it to work Wednesday. I have a base tune in it so I can drive it but it's going to need to hit the dyno before I take it WOT and work out the idle (it's at 1k in the video) and turn off the EGR. Bill |
Re: Eaton Swap.....
sounds great hope you get it there soon, can,t wait to get mine dialed in ,to see what it can really do
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
I got to drive mine for the past few days and so far no problems. I still need to get it tuned, should be one night this coming week. Now I'm wrapping up the little things. Since I nearly got stuck in the rain without the shaker back on I made brackets and got it mounted.
What I basically did was remove the bottom pan since it would have to be cut up to really clear the blower pulley. I made a new lower pan from a thin piece of 12"x18" aluminum, then mounted some aluminum rails on it and some 1/8" x 1" aluminum flat stock mounting tabs for the sides and front. Once I got it right I cleaned it up, cut out a few holes to push air down on the Eaton and painted it black hammer tone. I'm not too worried about the rain that actually makes it into the shaker. http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/2992/1000652j.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5902/1000653u.jpg http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/5016/1000655z.jpg |
Re: Eaton Swap.....
Wow, nicely done! Cool bracket you made up there. Looks great!

Re: Eaton Swap.....
I know this has probably been asking a million times, and may even be in this thread. But could somone give me a ballpark estimate of what it would cost to S/C a mach, and have a built motor to handle the boost and hp. Is about 9k close?
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
less than that if you buy a complete cobra motor, more if you want to go overboard

Re: Eaton Swap.....
No the only labor I have to actully pay is if I wanted build a motor, I know how it works, and I know enough to get me out of trouble or help someone. But I would pay the labor to have a pro. build me a motor. But I was thinking aswell that I could find a used Cobra motor and drop it in, then do a KB swap or such. I can do all of the myself, my only labor $'s like I said will be if I have to go build a motor. And If I go that route, from just glancly reading about Cobra's, the 04 motors are the best ones right, and it should be a direct swap into my car I assume, except I may need a wiring harness?
I know there a KB and Whipple thread, but If I got my hands on a good running cobra motor, what kind of prices is it to swap on a KB or whippe, another 2-3k? Thank you! |
Re: Eaton Swap.....
I pick up a 98 Mark 8 motor and i was lookin over some of the parts and i noticed the IAC Valve looked the same as the cobra and the part number looks to be the same. The IAC Valve only has 9f715 on it and thats the same as the cobra so could anyone tell me if it will work?
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
anyone?
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
yes
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
9F715 is the "base" number. All that tells you is that it's an IAC valve. You need the numbers in front of and after it to verify it's the same part.
Should look like F78A 9F715 AB That's the engineering number. With that a dealership can cross the number over to a Ford part number. |
Re: Eaton Swap.....
Great thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Re: Eaton Swap.....
Pretty much the last thing i need to know before i start the swap. Where does the IAT2 sensor get wire to the harness?

Didnt see it in there but dose it matter which wire connects to which wire out of the two wires?

any kits anyone knows of ???? or best place to buy parts?

Re: Eaton Swap.....
What kinda boost levels is everyone running safely on a stock bottom end?
What is the hp/tq GAINS you are seeing with the eaton swap (+90hp...+120hp!?) When doing the eaton are you guys having them ported and such like the Cobra guys do, or would that be too much power for the stock Mach block!? |

help with this. startin on the swap saturday and planning on finishing most of it up monday. |

I thought about having mine ported, but didn't have the money. Porting I don't feel would hurt as it's making the power more efficiently rather than adding more boost which would hurt. I think 1 or 2 had a stg. 1 port, but nothing bigger than that. Quote:

Re: Eaton Swap.....
should have worded it alittle better. Im using the IAT2 and i have the plug with 4 wires. i know what 2 wires to use on the plug but dont know which wire is the IAT and the SIG RTN when i cut them from the MAF plug.

Re: Eaton Swap.....
I am planning on starting on my parts search by the end of the year, and was curious. Ive got 98 cobra intake cams, how will these perform with FI? And esp. with a eaton/whipple, maybe kb.
Thanks! |
Re: Eaton Swap.....
I might consider selling my stock long block and buying an '04 cobra long block once I have the car paid off next year. The engine swap sounds like the cheapest and easiest route to take. I'm not sure how much money I could get for my stock engine but I would imagine a fair amount, considering it will have under 40k miles on it next year.
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
^^^ I'd give a little more thought about adding the weight of that cast iron block, plus the weight of the blower and accessories to the front end of the Mach. The Aluminator gives you all the benefits of the Cobra engine with the weight advantage of being all aluminum. Less filling, tastes great!
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
I guess I could pull the rods and pistons out of the cobra shortblock and swap them into the mach aluminum block, then swap over the upper half of the cobra engine. There's so many options that one could go with.

Re: Eaton Swap.....
Yes I know, but it's probably easier to buy the whole thing rather than piecing together parts.
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
or just buy a swap kit for alittle over 2 grand. and run 8/9lb of boost
Swap kit is better, then that would allow you to save up for a new shortblock if you need one. I had alittle over 3500 in my swap how ever I done some other stuff, and I just got my whipple in today so its early christmas :) |
Re: Eaton Swap.....
If I could get everything I need as far as the eaton setup goes for around $2000 that would be a good deal. I mainly just want to quit using nitrous. Right now I'm making 422hp 504tq on a 100 shot and I would like to make somewhere around that with the blower. Though I have a goal of hitting 11's N/A before I do anything.
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
So based on what I have read, I am better off using the Mach wiring even though I have the cobra harness?
|
Re: Eaton Swap.....
Sorry to jack thread, I was curious to know why you have to grind down the block slightly to accpet the 03-04 Intake manifold? why is that, is that just an option or is that mandatory? all though everything was a direct fit, since the mach's use 03-04 Cobra Heads to begin with.
