GT500's only good for 12.9 1/4 mile...

Car and Driver just ran the GT500 against a C6 corvette in the July issue. The corvette beat it in pretty much every aspect. The GT500 ran a 12.9, to the Vette's 12.8 in the 1/4, not to mention the vette beat it 0-60, and in braking.

Is Car and Driver on Chevy's payroll? I feel for the guys that go out and buy a C6 and think they are going to spank GT500's. I can't wait to see their faces when a GT500 blows by them and then passes the Z06 in front of them.
Here's the link....

Car and driver and road and track are a joke. They only know 'handling'. They don't know spwat about 1/4 mile racing. heck RT rated the mach at 13.7 and teh term. at 13.1...pretty pathetic. the GT500 has hit low 12s stock, already. The base C6 is also good for low 12s. THey are constantly .5 sec off on real world times. The base C6 woudl actually be a driver's race aganst the gt500......dang 4000 pounds...ERR!!

Re: GT500's only good for 12.9 1/4 mile...

One of them also did a comparison between the Z06, a Ferrari (F430, I believe), and another high dollar car. The Ferrari and the other car were both in the $175,000 plus range, but the Z06 spanked them in almost every performance category. They rated the Z06 last. The best reason they could come up with was that the Z06 interior and seats felt cheap to them. They mentioned that they were sure Z06 owners would be willing to ante up another $5000 on the cars price to get an interior that was comparable to the other 2. What a bunch of BS. The performance per dollar ratio of the Z06 is what makes it such a great car.

Car And Driver As Well As Motor Trend Are All Chevy/ Gm Favorable. So Yes I Think They Are On The Payroll From Gm.

I find them even more bias towards foreign cars than domestic cars, and no, they don't know squat about 1/4 mile racing. Are they are is car advertizing mediums.

They are both rags and aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

:notsure:

There is much bias in the automotive media publications, esp against Ford Motor Company and its products. I think the Shelby is fully capable of doing low 12's in its stock form and possibly even the 11's. I think i seen one say they had it in the 10's with light mods. I wish i would have read that magazine on the stand the other day.

Car and Driver magazine has always favored G.M. They think the Z06 is the best thing since sliced bread. Their 1/4 mile times are a joke,I think they add 0.50 to the slowest times their pathetic drivers can muster.

For MSRP........ the new Z is in a class by itself

Never has ~70K bought a near (arguably actual) supercar before.

BTW: I am NOT a GM fanboy....... the only one I ever owned was junk and besides the new Z I would not own one now

:stupid: And I can't stand Vettes. But the new Z is in a class by it self.

I would take a GT500 over it though...only cause I am such a stang junky.

Um, high 11s.....nope, not at 4000 pounds, 3.4x:1 gears and 500 hp it won't. Unless it was on DRs, or a greatly prepped, below sea level track.

I have driven one of the new GT500 mustangs. Honestly.I didnt think it was that much stronger than the 03-04 Cobra.

They are putting down roughly 60-80 more HP/TQ.....but it weighs almost 400 more pounds...so I agree. They are roughly 3-5 tenths faster..at best....great cars though, and once the modding starts......the GT500 is going to kick some a$$, with the charged 5.4 DOHC.

Small pulley exhaust and tune are the main factor is putting down serious numbers on an FI car. So, I can hardly call that 'two things aside from stock'. Not to mention, the Tune makes three. Without a tune on a smaller pulley makes a nice KABOOM sound.

BTW - Ford restricted this car via ECU program. BONE stock GT500s with Dyno tune alone, have put down almost 500.

Shelby GT500 making 563 RWHP/ 562 RWTQ (14 PSI)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st dyno I have seen of a GT500 with a pulley swap, exhaust etc.. Boost up'd to 14psi and the #'s are very strong to be on a Mustang Dyno

From Evolution Performance

Below is a video of our Shelby GT500 making 563 RWHP and 562 RWTQ (14 PSI) on our Mustang 1100-SE Dynamometer with a 2.6" Pulley, JLT Cold Air Intake System, Custom Off-Road X-Pipe, Custom Exhaust System, 4.10 Gears, and a Evolution Performance Custom Tune using SCT Advantage III Software!

We don't have any track times yet, since the past 4 days it's been raining here! We are trying to go to the track this Sunday if it stops raining, so keep an eye out here for information about us running this weekend

Re: GT500's only good for 12.9 1/4 mile...

It didnt seem like they hated the car, it got high marks except for the weight issue. Im sure the vette would be a sleeker car due to the way the exterior is designed it is more aerodynamic, just look at the body designs. they did note they may have been off that day. (they are probably off everytime they do a ford/gm test!)

If I had to choose between a ZO6 and the price gouged gt 500 I would get the zo6 because it is bad*** even though its a chevy, and take a look at the next special edition Mustang coming down the road in a few years (new Mach maybe!?) that may perform better and not be price gouged like the gt500. All the dealers ripping people off over the car has left a sour taste.
I will still keep my Mach no matter what though! :yeh:

As a whole I dont put much stock in C&D, especially after watching Brock Yates slam on the Mach 1 in the CD tv show. that was lame.!
