Got scammed by "Jayceto"

Well I didnt really get scammed but I definitely got screwed. Jayceto had PM'd me about wanting a subwoofer that I was selling and told me that he needed a few days to make up the money. I said thats fine and patiently waited. Few days go by and he posts in the FS section that he is selling a set of OEM headlights. So I text him (had his number from the subwoofer deal) and said if its okay with him we can just trade straight across and he said that would be great. So long story short, I told him that the subwoofer had shipped and he said the lights were shipped. About a week went by and I text him and said "Havent seen the headlights yet" and he text back imediately and said "Not home now working Ill text the tracking number as soon as I get home" A day passed and no number, text him again and asked ig he got the tracking number, no reply. Asked again next day, nothing. Called twice, no answer. So I text him again yesterday and said "Last chance. Whats up with the headlights? I dont wanna put you on blast on M1R but I will and we can take it to the cops. You dont wanna do that over $30 worth of parts" and still, nothing from him. I obviously am not taking it to the cops over $30 worth of stuff but still, what a douche. Now I know his post count is low and I probably shouldnt have trusted him as much as I did. But I like to think that SOME people in this world are still honest. And new sellers have to start somewhere. So I figured Id give him a try because it was only $30. Well it backfired. Nobody deal with this guy! :SMASH:

I know its not worth goin to the cops over $30... but it is. Cause you might be the 100th guy that's short 20 plus bucks. If no one gets on him, he's got no reason to stop. Besides it's(theoretically) open and shut case. You have his address, messages of him ignoring you, and all the police would have to do is ask for the tracking number to prove his innocence. He's told you he has it, so he should have no problem providing it for authorities...

Seems like everytime a scam pops up on here, its somebody from NJ. Probably the same person or friends.

I agree, it maybe just $30 but its YOUR $30. I would report him. And it could fall under mail fraud since it involved the postal service.

crossing state lines and using the postal system (doesnt matter if its usps, ups, fedex etc) makes it a federal offense

Yes, all the bad guys are from Jersey; we're all atomic punks. No need to stereotype us, man...

Dave, what about adding trader ratings? I've seen this on other forums and it certainly gauges whether or not one would want to do business with whomever possesses a poor or no rating.

Not stereotyping anybody, its a fact. I was simply saying there was a pattern. Is it the same guy? Is it a group of friends? Is it a certain area of Jersery? The one guy's dad was a cop. And its always a fairly new account with low post count. What was I suppose to say, 'i notice theres a certain state this scams occur from but I cant tell you guys'?

So what is your solution now that you've identified the problem, or location rather?
