Thinking of changing my setup...

I've decided to focus more on drivability/quality then just trying to make good power.

From:
JLT RAI - looks cheap and it wont let me run the hood blanket with an intake spacer
Borla catback
BBK Catted X
intake spacer
10th anni Cobra wheels
MARCH/CobraR pulleys
tune
4.10
90mm MAF - did nothing for me
Accufab TB - did nothing to help and has caused a few idle/hanging issues

---to---

K&N (then I can fit a hood blanket again and muffle the injector sound)
MRT catback
MRT catted(possibly cat-less) H
Intake spacer
stock MACH1 wheels (possible 2000 CobraR's)
Steeda FLFCs with torgue box braces
MARCH/CobraR pulleys
4.10
Aluminum drive shaft
tune
80MM MAF
stock TB

Possibly JBA shorty headers.

Opinions?

everything I have read and heard on this board says that shorty headers are a waste of $$. Go LT or go home.

If i go LT, home is where the car will stay because they will hit almost every driveway/entrance in the area, I smack my cats already with a stock suspension.

so do I.....its irritating that the low point on the car is the exhaust....

as to the rest of the set up most of it sounds good. The things I would change.....these cars don't tend to like pulleys. Some here will swear they cause no problems however enough people have had problems that they're not worth it for the small power gain in my opinion. If you want the engine bay to look a little nicer consider the C&L intake instead of the K&N. Almost same power gains except it looks alot nicer. I've heard of people worried about "heat soak" with it being metal, but the air moves through it too fast to make any kind of difference...

Thanks. I've actually had the pulleys for 2 yrs with out any problem. I actually believe its a combination of pulleys and revving past 7000 that causes pump problems from everything I've read online. Having a black car with black valve covers the K&N looks like it belongs in the engine bay more to me, though I to like the C&L piece.

I totally agree with you about the heat soak, for my other car(escort) I have the Roush intake which is aluminum, and most the best dyno ant track proven intakes for its are aluminum, in fact only 1 intake for the escort was plastic and that was the Ford Racing intake.

I would never trade away my Borla catback for an MRT. The MRT is good, but not better than Borla.

You have no need for an aftermarket TB or MAF. Run the stock ones. Switching those back to stock will help your drivability. Don't waste your money on the shorties. You're gonna spend all that money on them and they aren't going to change a **** thing, lol.

I don't see how your power is going to change with your new setup? You're really just going to improve drivability by removing parts you never needed.
