Neil Armstrong, first man to walk on the moon dies at age 82

A true hero and pioneer of the aeronautic world, I remember watching that night on July, 20, 1969 when he took those first small steps on the moon. He was never one to put himself in the limelight. A true professional and his passing is a sad day for all of us.

I was probably crapping my diaper watching it. I was 3. I remember watching a couple of the later missions in 1970 or 1971. He may be dead, but his name will live on forever.

For those that have a legitimate and reasonable interest in the subject, a number of the Apollo moon landing sites were photographed from lunar orbit...

I believe we went to the moon, but the only thing I can see in those pics is the tire tracks. I have no idea how they can figure out what objects are down there with those photo's.

The descent module of the LM is pretty consistent in all of the shots, while the Rover from 15, 16 &17 and the tool cart used on 12 & 14 seemed to leave tire tracks as well.
I had not ever seen the shot of the impact from the Apollo 13 3rd stage crash. Impressive.

Everyone raise your glass of Tang for Neil Armstrong. I actually never knew their was a controversy over the moon landing until a couple years ago.

Haven't had Tang in forever.
One of the patches in my space patch collection is originally a Tang mail in. If you click on the link the photo also shows the actual press pass from the Apollo 11 launch and the commemorative coin that was given with them.

Sad news indeed. About 70 miles to the north of where I live, there is museum named for him. Time to go see it.

No lie! And it certainly was associated with the space program the entire run up to the moon.

Tang is a fruit-flavored drink. Originally formulated by General Foods Corporation food scientist William A. Mitchell[1] in 1957, it was first marketed in powdered form in 1959.[2]

Sales of Tang were poor until NASA used it on John Glenn's Mercury flight,[3] and subsequent Gemini missions.

Since then, it was closely associated with the U.S. manned spaceflight program, leading to the misconception that Tang was invented for the space program.[4][5]
