voltage drop

Im looking for some opinons, Im having a voltage drop issue, when in gear, at WOT. It will be cruising 14.1-14.5 and be great, then as soon as i lay the gas down it drops, quick, down into the low 11's, its causing me to max out my pumps and I let out instantly so i dont blow the motor from a lean condition.

But Ive been playing with it, and if I fire up the car, cold, (ill let it get to around 150) and i do a WOT pull, voltage stays above 13.5 and im golden. Once ive been riding for a while and its hot is when I notice this.

any ideas? Thanks.

Re: voltage drop

Sounds to me like a 'flying short' in your alternator. Not all that uncommon. Best bet would be to try a known good alternator first. Sometimes the centrifugal force of high rpms will cause an open or short in the alt. windings then all you are reading on your guage is battery voltage because the alternator has stopped charging. It may only happen when hot because it's just starting to fail and thermal expansion is contributing to the failure.

do you have a boost a pump or boost a spark? That helpped me alot

Re: voltage drop

with the car warm, sitting at idle, with the voltmeter connected.. raise the rpm slowly up the rpm range all the way up to 5K.. does the voltage get fubard?
