I can't keep doing this

Falling back in love with my Mach 1, that is.

I've debated selling the Mach so many times to go ride another horse, but every now and then just when I'm sure that I've lost the connection with it, something happens when I get behind the wheel and it all comes back to me why I love this car. And not only that, but I honestly struggle with the idea of it being in anyone else's possession.

Am I alone in this battle? :wall:

Hell no.
I usually go through that myself every winter; ask my family and friends.
Talk about selling the Mach in the spring etc, then when I bring her out and drive :gears:
NOPE I gotta keep her.

Think this is the 1st winter in about 6 years where I haven't thought about selling my Mach 1.

Re: I can't keep doing this

I test drove a 2015 GT with a 6 speed manual and was ready to sign and trade her in, but I decided it would be best to put that money in the house. We also got a new ride for my wife so now I'm not daily driving my Mach in the winter, etc. We will see how it goes now that I can focus on taking care of her. I may not be so willing to part with her lol. :horse:

Re: I can't keep doing this

The only reason my Mach is still around is a Boss 302 is no where near a reasonable price. Getting a dime-a-dozen GT does nothing for me, so I'll hang onto the Mach another 7 years and find something else when I retire.

Will I miss the Mach when I get rid of it? Absolutely not. I don't understand regretting selling a car unless you were forced to sell it.

Re: I can't keep doing this

I say keep the Mach, I understand for sure what your going through and even now I miss my mach, yea I could get another one, which almost did (auto SY one) but it wouldn't be my first mach. I miss the hell out of mine, just so much connection with that one car. Only suggestion I will make is don't sell or trade in the mach, if your able to get the other ride and then if you notice that your not so in love with the mach, then sell it, just a thought, I know not everyone's budget works that way. The Trans Am is probably the closest I got to what the mach did for me, but its not the mach.

The Mach and I have had too many memories together. We have had our ups and downs. Considered parting ways a few times. But when I spank that pedal and hear her roar, I can't seem to walk away. haha.

Re: I can't keep doing this

I've dropped to much money into mine that I could never get back out of it. Of course, if someone were to offer me the right amount of money for it I would let her go.

But, I really have no desire to get rid of it, I know the history of the car as I am the original owner, if I do want another car I will just buy one, not trade in the Mach. Trading it in will rape me for sure. :)

Re: I can't keep doing this

30k wouldn't get me out of the Mach. To much blood, sweat, and cash have been put into it for me to let her go. It was my dream car at 16 and worked my *** off till I got it at age 20.

Seriously thinking of selling ours also. I plan on retiring in 21 months (whose counting) bought a new Escape for retirement and I want it paid for in 21 months. Selling the Mach would make it easier. But then where is my fun car when I do retire. I don't know what to do. Black 03 Mach with 27000 miles with extras 15,000 firm. Sitting in my garage freezing its rear end off. Just in case anyone out there might know someone.

About to retire, (congrats) but the only way you could tear a toy like that out of my hands is if I was replacing it with something better. So, what will you replace it with? (Escape can NOT be the answer, lol )

Here ya go jh, this was sent to me from my Mustang club

If any of you are looking for a great Shelby GT500 that has been pampered and selling for a reasonable price the car below is the one.
I can verify it has not been abused in any way, never been on track or raced and owned by a police officer. This is a very nice Shelby.

2008 Shelby GT500, Black w/ dark Gray stripes on top and rocker, dark gray leather interior with Shelby snake on seatbacks, all power options, Ford MyColor dash lighting, 6 disc CD/Stereo, tinted windows, Ford racing exhaust and shifter knob, upgraded supercharger pulley and professionally tuned to 600HP. Only 11,500 miles, near mint condition, always garaged, factory GPS system, never seen snow, no accidents, non-smoker, seats like new, title in hand, well maintained. Asking $34,700 Contact Matt Nemeth Mathew.Nemeth@jaxsheriff.org The car is listed in Auto trader with more photos.

Re: I can't keep doing this

Honestly...

Two weeks ago I had a PDR technician remove a couple of child induced imperfections on my left qtr. leaving only a small paint scratch...

got my noise issue fixed last week (k-member bolts needed to be torqued)

Car has never looked or sounded better after I complete some minor repairs or upgrades...

Yes, I think about it. Honestly though I won't be able to do so financially for a long time as my money has to go to upcoming college costs, a car for my oldest, and the increased premiums that go with...

so...give me @ 10 years...maybe I can get a boss 302 by then...

Glad that I do love this car...

01yellerCobra 02-20-2015 12:18 AM

There was a time I would've said the same thing about my 01. But the chance showed up to own my dream car. So I jumped on it. I figured if I still missed the 01 I could sell the new ride and go back to fixing my 01. It's been about two weeks and I haven't missed my 01 yet. In fact the demodding process has started.

Re: I can't keep doing this

I've often said that the Mach 1 was my 'forever car'. If I was willing to replace it I would have already have a Boss 302 or a GT500. The idea that I can say that I bought my Mach brand new does mean something, and the places it has taken me and the people that I've met because of it transcends the car itself.
Have I thought about getting rid of it? Sure. Have I done it? Nope.

Re: I can't keep doing this

I've had the 'should i sell it' debate for years...but every time it comes back to - NO! The car is simply too special to me and I've gone through so much with it. A lot of learning and growing experiences would walk out the door the moment I got rid of the car. Plus, from a financial perspective, it would be a huge 'loss' to sell the car. I've dumped so much into the Mach that it would make me cry selling it for what someone would pay (probably somewhere around 15k). And, for 15k, I'd rather have the car sit and work that much harder to come up with the money from somewhere else to get the next/another toy.
