Dodge Ram Hemi

Just seeing what your thoughts were on this: Someone I know just bought a used 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab with the Hemi. It has 120,000 miles on it. He drove the truck from VA to Toledo, OH...that way takes you through the cumberland gap (a steep climb through MD) & through Morgantown WV. I guess what I'm trying to say is there were alot of hills on the way there. Ok, so here is the kicker. He claims he got 16 mpg on the way there. Does anyone have any experience with these trucks? Is that possible or total BS? I kinda feel that its BS but I'm not really in tune with the Dodge crowd. So what are you guys thoughts or facts?

I drive that to work and it is very hilly highway for sure. But then again theres not much flat road here.

Too many spark plugs, and tie rod ends way to often.

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi

Ive got a friend with a 04 hemi and he doesn't see more than 15mpg driving to and from work 30 miles each way at 60mph on flat roads (according to him that is). I know he used to get mad because my lifted cummins always got much better fuel milage than his hemi and I was seeing 17-18mpg on average.

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi

was he pulling a trailer or just the truck?
i have a 07 dodge ram with a HEMI and i had it loaded up, oh its four door, it was just me and my dog Rocky on the road trip. i also had the mach on a flat bed trailer
Start point: Ft. Lewis, WA
End point: outside of Houston, TX
i was getting like 13MPG
i was tryin to find what it was for sure, might have been in 12's
either way i was proud of the HEMI, pulling the Mach like that
i was going up and down them hills up north and all them straight roads.
so i don't think he is full of chite

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi

i know the later model hemi's have something that regulates the cylinders...shuts 2 of them off or whatever for better fuel mileage....but 03 did not have that....so 16 seemed like alot to me

Re: Dodge Ram Hemi

well i had to do a 60mile trip to the VA today in Houston and for the most part i was going around 80mph and was getting 15.8mpg
