I do not believe that burner supports writing to DVD -R media, only DVD +R.

You shouldn't require any special utilities for this.

Resize it manually, to the size you want it to be, then hold down shift and click the X to close the window. then the next time it'll open...

You can just go to network connections (in control panel) and right click to delete any LAN icons you are not using/needing. Or you can right click and select "rename" and call it anything you want....
