F150 Questions
i've got an '02 F150 SCrew with a 4.6 that has broken the 200K mile barrier.
just recently, it has started getting temperamental about starting when the engine is at 'operating temperature' - as in it fires right up when the engine is cold, but will not start after being driven for a while then stopping; like for gas or food. relating back to the ancient times of carburetors, it acts like it is vapor locked where it wants to start but just doesn't fire up. there are no trouble codes in the ECU, so i'm a little lost where to start trouble-shooting. i've seen some folks here mention F150 forums. i've looked on a few to diagnose other issues but not a member on any. if there's a good one someone wants to recommend, i would be appreciative. cheers! |

Re: F150 Questions
honestly man im lost with you on that on. my dads 86 F150 would start up great cold but after drove for a hourish and stop for food or gas like you mention this thing would barely turn over like the battery was about dead and then fire up. battery and alt always checked out fine it done it for years so we let it go lol

Re: F150 Questions
It could be the TFI module...I had trouble with those in an 88 & an 89 when they got too much heat they just shut down & after 20-30 minutes they cooled & you could start again....Shows nothing wrong ever....we fixed the 88 & 89 by relocating the module to the firewal & on a heat sink....the 02 should already be relocated but still could be faulty due to age.

Re: F150 Questions
is that motor basically the same that is in an 04 GT? Could your cops be breaking down and heat just not allowing spark? If it is the same as the GT, I have some extra cops you can try. Although a long shot.

Check and see if you are getting fuel. Then see if you are getting spark. Those are two very simple things to check. It sounds like a PCM issue. You need to go to a diagnostic shop so the can watch the parameters and see what's not turning back on. Bite the bullet and pay the $100 bucks because u are going to be throwing parts at it if u don't

Re: F150 Questions
Could be fuel pressure, fuel filter, a temp sensor, weird theres no codes.
I have a 2004 F150 with the 5.4L and it's never had a problem, the pass. side exhaust manifold leaks a bit until it warms up, and the steering sticks a bit. but it's been a good truck.
