Question Painting underside of hood

I removed hood insulation for IC clearance and just got in 2 spray cans of Automotive Touchup CX code (DSG) spray. What would be good to wipe down hood with first and should I primer it first since it already has a base color on it ?? Thanks !!

Re: Painting underside of hood

Go to an auto paint supply store and ask for a solution to wipe it down with. Depending on the product brand as to what they will call it. It's important to get the oils and grime off before you shoot paint. You should also scuff it up with scotch-brite after you wipe it down, then wipe it down with the solution after scuffing it up. I would only prime if you have bare metal.

Re: Painting underside of hood

I've used this stuff before,
it cannot hurt to spray a primer down, which will show you if any bad spots

Thanks, went to my paint man and got some gray scuff pads and some 707 to wipe it down.

Did your paint turn out good? Hope so........The best advice for anyone shooting paint, is make sure it's clean.

I was wondering the same thing, but I'm sure he has been busy with his MMR oil part, to worry about spraying the underside of the hood right now

Re: Painting underside of hood

Its amazing what a coat of paint can do...

I was under the car yesterday putting on a strut tower brace and noticed how bad my control arms look...So I went out about bought some rust stripper things (Im bad with remembering the actual name of them) that you put in a dremel or power drill to strip of the rust....

I am going to knock as much rust off of them as I can and then hit them with some paint to make them look new again.

I did the same thing when I took my hood scoop off to do the throttle body work...I repainted the hood scoop and all of the mounting hardware black and they look like BRAND new parts again...Now my OCD is kicking in and I want to rip the whole engine bay apart and paint everything to look new again...lol...

This post has inspired me to do the same with the underside of my hood...Thanks for posting it up!!
