My Cars Idle Sounded Like it Had a Heavy Cam.....But it doesn't

My car has been having trouble holding idle for a while now. Today it sounded like my 71 comet at idle which has a very heavy cam'd 302. Too bad my Mach doesn't really have a cam and isn't running right instead, but it still sounded sick!

It also hesitates while driving. Has backfired a few times. And sounds like its missing off and on. My guess is the coils because thats the only thing left I haven't changed other then the fuel system components. But it still runs strong, and doesn't feel like its running on 6 or 7 cylinders all the time at WOT.

My question is what coils should I go with. Their has been so much debate on the search I don't even know what to do.

Is there something I can datalog to check? It hasn't thrown any codes, at all.

What I've Already Done:
New TPS sensor
New EGR sensor
Cleaned IAC and MAF
Checked vacuum lines
Replaced the front O2 sensors
New NGK spark plugs
New Fuel Filter
New Battery
New Battery Terminals

Mods
MRT H Pipe
SSS Catback
MAF Adapter with Cone Filter (No MAF Screen)
XCAL3 Tune from VMP

Miles
70,000

Problem solved see post 7

you can check to see if its the coils at idle, its real easy, pull the coil covers off both sides (then hook the intake tube back up) and pull the coils off the spark plugs, when you find the one that doesn't change the idle at all, thats your bad coil.

you also might want to take your car in to have the tune checked out.

Maybe I should just take it to have it dyno tuned. I'll try your coil test. If that doesn't seem like the issue, i'm taking it to get a custom tune.

you may just want to unplug the pigtail from the coil so you don't shock the crap out of yourself...

Re: My Cars Idle Sounded Like it Had a Heavy Cam.....But it doesn't

So I was looking around and I tugged on a small ground wire that bolts to the front of the car between the radiator, just above the head light. It pulled out of its connector with almost no effort and the car shut off. It was rusted and corruted to all hell inside. Changed the wire and connector, along with the bolt, and problem solved! Score! YAY!

Lucky. I was about to suggest that your MAF might be bad.
