Nice link. Years ago (actually, Nixon was president) I would stove-test new thermostats in a saucepan of water. In today's world we don't look at the simple stuff such as this nearly enough. For this kind of change, my take is that you should make a good delta like 190 to 160 - don't bother stopping at 180.

Too often you can find it being asserted on boards that modern engines MUST have a certain thermostat so that gasoline doesn't was the cylinder walls, blah, etc., blah. We were reading the same things in 1970. Steel and iron alloys are tough, and life is short. Put in the thermostat you feel like. Our stock-type cars are very temperature-sensitive at the strip, and any head start you can give it in cooling off between rounds helps.
