Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
Im looking into buying an aluminum drive shaft for my TR3650 Mach with a 2003 Built IRS. My question is will this work? If not what can be done to make it work, and is it worth it?
2003 Cobra OEM drive shaft with both yokes removed

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
Yes it will work. See sig.
Are you using the cobra diff flange right now or the Mach flange? The back flange on the driveshaft has to match the diff flange. Can't mismatch Mach and Cobra flanges. If you use the cobra driveshaft flange and diff flange, you'll need to use the hybrid u joint which I'm assuming you already have in the car. Been awhile since I've done this, so I'm a little rusty myself...

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
For the IRS swap, I just swapped the differential flange to use my stock driveshaft. No aftermarket or other u joint was used. So with my understanding, the aluminum driveshaft would not work without a different u joint? Thanks for helping my man

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
If you put the diff flange from your SRA on the IRS and re-used your old driveshaft, then I don't see you needing to change anything. Just remember: can't mismatch flanges. Wont fit.
The aluminum FRPP unit (which is made by a company called "Neapco Drivelines) will directly swap with a stock Mach/Gt driveshaft. Since I used the entire IRS assembly, differential flange and all, I had to mate my Frpp driveshaft to it with the cobra driveshaft flange and a hybrid u-joint that would accept the frpp driveshaft for a tr3650 but also adapt to the cobra differential flange. Kind of confusing, but not really. Incase you were wondering, the aluminum driveshaft kicks azz. Id have a reputable driveshaft shop balance it out for you before installing. They're "production" pieces and aren't what you would call "perfect". I didn't know that when I put mine on.

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
Looking to do the same mod, just need to call my shop to see how they did the DS/Flang when they installed my '03 IRS.
BY FAR the IRS was the best mod I did to this car!!! LOVE it, just had to get used to the "Cobra Thump" when shifting.

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
Does anybody know if an 01 cobra driveshaft is the same as an 03? Found one on svtp and its the last part I need for my T56 swap.

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
Forgot to mention, I only swapped the flange in the differential when i did my IRS swap. So what I'm thinking, is that it is possible to just swap both flanges off my stock drive shaft and put it on the aluminum drive shaft. Think this will work?

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
I really don't think switching flanges is going to make up the difference...

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
lol sorry, didn't mean just the flange that would fix the problem, but swapping both yokes over with a 1330/1350 u-joint and adding the drive shaft spacer to the terminator aluminum drive shaft. I don't see why the spacer wouldn't work with a stock mustang yoke thats for an SRA correct?

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
From my other thread on SVTP in the Terminator Drive-train section:

So what I'm looking at now is my oem yoke+ hybrid u joint+ cobra drive shaft+ hybrid u joint+ oem Mach/gt flange+ the 11/16ths drive shaft spacer into the IRS differential. Leaving roughly (.5) inches short of the 00/01 cobra 44.5'' setup for an aluminum drive shaft utilizing the IRS. :read: Is that correct? Are you sure about the 1inch loss of the TR3650 from SRA to IRS?

Re: Aluminum DS with an 03 IRS Compatable?
Give it a shot. Only way to know. More than likely, you are in uncharted waters with this one as that's a very unusual setup.
I'm interested to find out the results..
