Lubelocker vs RTV rear differential seal
So my rear diff started leaking after having it done 2.5-3 years ago. Silver RTV was used. So I decided to go the lube locker gasket route this time and upgraded the girdle to a 2014 gt500 oem girdle and ARP bolts. Which seal or gasket do you guys prefer? let's see how long the gasket lasts

Re: Lubelocker vs RTV rear differential seal
Lubelocker over here. No leaks for 3 years running plus you can reuse the same gasket up to 5 times.

Re: Lubelocker vs RTV rear differential seal
I used the paper gasket that came with my Moser cover and it leaks just a bit. My Motive rear rebuild kit also came with a paper gasket. That Lubelocker looks much better though!
https://www.amazon.com/Lube-Locker-F.../dp/B008RAFJ38 Actually that's the highest rated item I've ever seen on Amazon. 31 reviews all 5 star.

Re: Lubelocker vs RTV rear differential seal
I file all the gaskets in the trash. Permatex "right stuff" have never had one leak, not on the mach, truck or any other rear end for that matter.

Re: Lubelocker vs RTV rear differential seal
guess I need to give that lube locker a shot and see. worth it without the mess and constantly having to clean mating surfaces.

Re: Lubelocker vs RTV rear differential seal
The best rtv is great stuff its not like permetex blue grey black or silver. It comes in a pressure bottle or a caulk gun tube. If you are having a leak with rtv that is usually caused by 1 of 2 things 1 the mating surfaces werent flat (could have been inproperly tightened or bad machining) or there was oil still dripping across the mating surface.
Also keys to a good seal, brake clean both surfaces, dont let the silicone skin, when putting the cover on if doing by your self use alignment bolts in 2 holes so you can just push it forwards or have a friend help. Also many dont scoop the oil out of the mini sump in the rear end BUT this can lead to a mini drip that is very hard to see when putting the cover on. Also the last rule (also the one i never follow) your supposed to wait so many hours before re filling |
