Re: Rebuilt Motor?
Is your mechanic a machinist ? Unless you see some real physical damade id be skeptical to say the least . Take the time and tear it down . You can pick up a used motor pretty cheap worst case scenario .

Re: Rebuilt Motor?
You can beat on it all day every day if its built and tuned correctly .

Re: Rebuilt Motor?
If you elect to rebuild your motor, (or any motor), use forged internals. Don't waste your time with stock pistons/connecting rods...

Re: Rebuilt Motor?
The durability of a rebuilt engine depends on the skill of the rebuilder, quality of the machine work, and quality of the parts used. I would definitely upgrade the internals if I had to rebuild my Mach engine.

Re: Rebuilt Motor?
that seems like a good deal on a used mach motor. you figure, you can get a good alum block for a few hundred bucks. a whole rotating assm (forged) will only be $1700. machine work (looks like you have a buddy that can help with that) and some odds and ends, you should be able to put together a pretty nice shortblock good to around 800 hp for well under $3k. even if you had to get heads and cams, you should be able to get the hole thing for under $4.5K or so with some comp cams and nice parts. if you got with 98 cobra cams or stock cams, that will be pretty cheap. are the heads ok? intake? see, when you say your motor is trashed, its only part of it. other things that add up in a hurry (and you end up paying for in a rebuilt or new motor) are still good on yours. timing gears, pan, valve covers, intake, ect. a block and rotating assm for these things are cheap. and if you do it right, will be stronger and last longer than the factory orig stuff

Re: Rebuilt Motor?
I would have been all over this deal if I had seen it a bit sooner, already got my rebuilt one in and just waiting for some gaskets to come in.
