Re: Steering Shaft Creeking

I upgraded to Poly bushings about 2 years ago and the creaking started getting worse. i thought it might be noise from worn tie rods so I checked it out yesterday. I had my brother turn the wheel side to side with the car off while I felt around the suspension and steering components for play. turns out it was coming from the rack mounting points.

I skipped the step of grinding the new sleeves, and the rubbing against the metal washers was causing the noise for me. I didn't want to rip up the bushing while trying to remove it so I added a polyurethane shim between it and the washer about 1//4" thick. Noise is no more.

for all of you that are planning on doing this fix, DON'T FORGET TO GRIND THE SLEEVE.
