Got a question regarding the cam bolts. Here are the specs and ARPs part numbers if you can't get them through your local ford dealer.
These are pricey bolts. But only safe option if you can't get them through Ford. Also, people will buy these ARP ones and torque them when they want to modify the stock cam gears to allow for adjustments when changing the cam timing. ARP-256-1001 Cam Bolt Kit, 18mm 12-point, Chromoly, Black Oxide, 12mm x 1.50 RH, Ford, 4.6L Modular, 5.4L Modular, Kit ARP-256-1002 This is the part number for the arp 10mm cam bolts. Same as above just 100m vs 12mm.

Everytime I go through this thread, first it gets me all revved up to do this, second it scares me haha. I have plans for a custom set of cams, but still trying to decide if I want to do it myself. If so, I'll be able to do it sooner for sure. How many miles did you have on your Mach when you did the 96-98 cams?

Just hit 160k on my 03 DSG and did a major overhaul including 98 cobra cams,new lash adjusters/chain guides and tensioners also clutch and trans and fresh powder coat on the valve covers..Went dot to dot on the cam install (many threads where guys are making 20-25rwhp) can't beat that for $150! Install was pretty straight forward if your familiar with 32v engines the ford cam tool makes things much easier! Thanks to fellow member Vndcatr for the help we are good buddies and have helped each other on both of our cars,good friends and fast cars is what it's all about pics soon to come

If you buy a set of Cobra cams, do you need to send them out to a machine shop for anything before you put them in?

Eruza,I have comp cams now and will sell you my Cobra cams. They have the filed keyways so you can reuse your stock gears. Just need the cams and ARP cam bolts.

Not really a how too,just a few pics to get an idea,little more extensive pulling engine and trans/k member etc,but with all the work I needed to do it was a no brainer..Also along with the cobra cam install I did a head cooling kit,built t45 (yes a t45,I was not going to pass on a fresh t45source trans including billet shift forks,less than 1k miles for $1k,my 3650 has had hardly a 2nd gear for months while I collected parts) Anyway here you go,cam key ways at 6 o'clock,TDC and all dot to dot with pink nail polish lol..I had previously already installed longtubes,jlt,430s,7/8ths intake spacer and multiple suspension goodies..My buddy Vndcatr tunes the car with sct prp hope to go 11s in march.

Those of you looking for cobra cams try getting somebody selling complete heads to separate their B heads from the cams themselves and have them include the bolts and sprockets...it's worth a try worked for me! Always double check part numbers!!

i think if i was still doing bolt ons and wanted that extra power, id be doing cobra cams. Everyone has their own way of installing them but for a couple hundred bucks its good power. plus a tune is not needed for Just the cams.
^^ good info on the part numbers, people are always unsure.

Dot to dot gives that nice linear pull above the stock 5200rpm power peak also.
