Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
I finally got around to doing this since I had bulbs for awhile now. Super easy, literally 15-20 minutes (though I was going to do the overlay on bezel, but the clear lens is...another story), anywho, pics during the DAY in my barn, can't wait to see how they look tonight on the way to 50th show in Savannah!!
Great write up, wouldn't have even known about this if it wasnm't for this thread!!!

Looks great! I need to do this too. I know I'm getting old, but I swear it's gotten harder to read at night.

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
Bringing this thread back,I need help..I'm beggining to think some Mach clusters have blue film on the back of the lenses and others don't?? I've bought 2 sets of white LED bulbs and both sets light up light blue like half the clusters in this thread were posted and I'm looking for the white effect...Other members are posting white LED bulbs and there clusters are lighting up white not light blue?? And no I do not have the cool white or blue bulbs I have bright or "warm" white bulbs...I see on page 4 of this thread one member posted about having to remove the film from the lense in his cluster and he got the white effect he was looking for,but the OP post he just went with white LEDs no removal of the blue film and his light up white?? Someone please elaborate I'm tired of removing my cluster and I really don't wanna remove the blue film cause the finished product is ALWAYS spotty when lit up..

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
The ones I got were crystal white, like 5k or 6k white. They have a blue-ish tint to them depending on the light around. At night they look more closely to white. I just deal with it because it sounds like a pain in the *** to remove the film. I think I would be more inclined to do it if I could get every light on the dash to bright white. I think the HVAC controls has film too.

Pretty sure only way is to remove the film. I've never heard of anyone getting a pure white look with just bulbs alone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also, anyone know why some of the how-to's you see tell you to disconnect the battery? I didn't do that. Did I get lucky lol?

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
So finally got to the bottom of my cluster issues and got rid of the blue in favor of the white look...The overlay does have a blue tint like I assumed and I just went for it and sanded the blue overlay off..Resetting the needles took some time and a drive up the street but all came out solid..
Up to the sun you can see the blue overlay and the fuel level/temp gauges I had already sanded.. Finished product.. Last edited by SIC9250; 11-14-2015 at 07:34 PM. |

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
I installed the warm white on mine and they don't seem to be brighter than stock? did I do something wrong? when I dim them the dimmer is only half way tuned when they go all the way down. someone tell me what I did wrong.

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
Installed the Speed of Sound column with Oil and Water gauges that have LCD"s and totally overpower the stock dash. How hard is it to take out the dash to get at the bulbs??

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
Wont take you more than 20 minutes to do it, just take out the bezel screws, then 4 screws holding down the gauges and that's it.

I had cool white in mine from SW-Lights, but was getting tired of the look. I ended up buying these warm white LEDs from SuperBrightLED's.
I bought these.. https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...-car/228/1068/ They have more clarity and look white compared to the cool white. I think I should have bought a set of these because they have a higher lumen and it's nice that they come with the little twist socket. You can always dim them down a bit. https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...rofit-car/841/

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
Thanks for rekindling this right up. I have been turning my headlight knob every now and again thinking I have turned it down since it isnt bright as I would like it. I like the white look you changed from ,so I think ill give them a try.

Re: How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
Decided this was going to be my Saturday project. So easy, and looks fantastic. If you are on the fence about this (like I was), DO IT. Such a simple mod that creates a huge difference. I did somehow end up with an extra three bulbs, though. Does anybody know if these same exact LED bulbs power anything else in the car? Might as well hook them up as well. I got the warm white LEDs because I didn't want the bright blue color, pic attached. Thanks for the awesome write-up!

How to: LED gauge install (white like stock, not blue)
Looks great! I think they look a little whiter and brighter than mine. It's tough to find something bright that doesn't have the blueish tint to it. As far as that size of bulb, I'm not sure, but possibly in the HVAC control module..?
