Hurricane Cars?

After Katrina I watched for water damaged newer model Mustangs to show up for sale. Hmmm, none did? One would make for a great start to a race only car. I wonder if all the water damaged cars from Sandy will quietly sneak their way back into the automotive society?

Check what happened to 4703 new Mazdas a few years ago for insurance claims:

Re: Hurricane Cars?

"It also worried that scammers might find a way to spirit the cars abroad to sell as new. That happened to thousands of so-called "Katrina cars" salvaged from New Orleans' flooding three years ago. Those cars--their electronics gone haywire and sand in the engines--were given a paint job and unloaded in Latin America on unsuspecting buyers, damaging automakers' reputations."

Oh... that's kinda sad. Thanks for sharing. I guess that's why I couldn't find a Mustang to use for a project race car.

Re: Hurricane Cars?

Yeah, don't kid yourself. There are a lot of Katrina cars out there on the roads in the US. It was so bad from Mississippi, there was abotu a 4-6 week wait to get cars loaded on transporters out of there. the amount of cars that made it out of N.O. was astounding. One particular Mach 1 that belonged to a member here was rescued, fixed up and later sold. The buyer knew what he was getting, and I drove it. Drove like a new car.
