On the fence about selling the Mach..

I keep struggleing on if I should sell my White 04 5spd Mach..

Will they be worth any big $$ down the road?? or just a slight amout more then a GT..?

I love the car.. but I want something faster. Id like to get a 13-14 GT500 in a few years.. I know there is a few members on here that have moved on, what do you guys think?

agh im just torn!

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I could see a mint/kept in a bubble Mach1 possibly being worth something many decades from now but youd have probably spent as much to keep it from rotting away during that time as youd make on it.

Personally I dont see keeping one as an "investment"

The only american cars making any money right now are all 45+ years old. Nothing from the mid-70's on is worth squat. Maybe your great-grandson will make out good.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I'm from the other side of the coin. I see the Mach as a car that is done depreciating and is not a car you'd see every day. A GT 500 will lose value in the first few years, and that's not any more of an investment than a Mach 1. I'm still just a bit partial to the Mach 1, and I feel from an investment point the Mach 1 is going to hold it's current value more than a GT 500. No matter what car it seems to be, it has to be older to start increasing the value. Your half way there, why start over?

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I for one miss my mach, but do understand where you are coming from, do I think the mach's will be worth a ton of money down the road, not for what people think or those that never drove them thinking they were going to get big money out of them.
why not gain some power to the mach if you want to go faster?
or keep the mach and get a new 5.0, which already has some good n/a power?

I wouldn't do it. Every one that sells there Mach from what I read wish they still had it. I don't care what it's worth on paper. To me it's worth keeping

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

Anyone who spends money on a car as a "investment" has a poor financial advisor.

If you love it keep it. If you like something better sell it. Cars are always a loss of money. Even if you get what you paid as sticker price you still lost what you paid out in taxes, insurance, and maintenance. Sorry to be a downer. I just never like to use the words car, and investment together.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

The only Mustang I see myself buying next is a '13 Boss 302. When that time comes, I'll drop the Mach like a hot potato. No regrets here. Never understood that anyway. Crap or get off the pot.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I might just be sentimental, but I sold the 03 Mach I bought brand new in late 2006. In 2013 I drove about 1000 miles round trip to buy another that looked almost identical and optioned the same as the one I sold.

To me, the 4v 4.6 just sounds a little better than the Yotes and a lot better than the LS series of cars. And with an 01 Cobra front fascia, 03 Cobra rear fascia and side skirts, it's still one of the best looking cars on the road.

Yea, the performance isn't as good and the interior isn't as nice, but that's just how I feel about the matter.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

Ive been in the same boat but decided to keep the Mach. 2 simple reasons, Im not paying for another car I barely drive and I still enjoy the unique factor . Faster is always cool but gotta ask yourself would you really drive a coyote any different then the Mach? For me I would be spending an extra 10 grand just to tell people I now have more HP. However if its something that will really make you happy then I say sell it ASAP and get what you enjoy!

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I like the GT500s and think they will retain more money than a Mach; but you will be spending more to get it so end the end you will net the same. Realizing an investment would be so far down the road that you will not enjoy the profit.

Buy what you want to drive, period. If it is paid for, have both.

I say go drive one and then decide. You may fall in love or not. I suspect you will fall in love.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I wouldn't hold into it merely in the hope that it will be a good investment well down the line. Keeping it because it has a great combination of visual punch, sweet sound, very good performance, and high fun factor are good reasons though.

If any of those factors are losing their luster or you just need something different, then maybe it is time to move on. Time will tell if you regret it, but sometimes you have to take the plunge. You never know. You might find something that hits all the right buttons and is well worth the change.

Or you might realize that the Mach 1 was a keeper after all.

I know when I bought my used Mach 1 in 2009, I heard that the previous owner regretted it. Seems like that happens a lot with these cars. Either way. Good luck.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I used to go back and forth about this in the past. Nearly followed through a couple times. Then one day those thoughts/feelings just stopped and I knew I was keeping it 'forever'. I've loved the Mach 1 more and more since that happened.

Furthermore, you could spend another 10 grand in upgrades to the Mach that will blow a Coyote out of the water AND keep the cool factor of the Mach.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

I had the same thoughts. I bought a 2013 GT and thought out selling the Mach. But, after thinking about it and getting advice from the member's here, I kept my Mach. It just has that "cool" factor and the look never gets old. Like others have said, you'll probably regret getting rid of it sometime down the road.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

Well, I've been down that street. I've had 2 03 Machs. Still have my AB. Last year I wanted something faster and more modern and bought a 14 GT500. I think I've put 300 miles on the Mach since and I'm getting it ready to sell it. As much as I enjoyed my time with the Mach, can't justify keeping a car that I don't drive anymore. A nice thing about the Mach is that it's worth almost as much as I paid for it almost 5 years ago. The prices don't tank like a regular GT.

Get a ride in a 13/14 GT500, it'll put a big smile on your face.

Re: On the fence about selling the Mach..

Having owned quite the inventory/fleet of hot rods over the years, I can tell you my 03 TR Mach 1 was one of my favorite cars!
After an Eaton swap, it was truly a do-everything car. Mine was an auto and was a blast to drive.

However like most of my projects, once I finish them, I start to lose interest and am ready for my next build.

I sold the Mach to a local guy so I see it occasionally. I do miss that car!
However I always wanted a Terminator Cobra so after a few months I found one and that is my current project.

Hard for me to tell you one way or the other. I enjoy the builds of any of my projects the most, so my 1st thoughts are to tell you to do more mods! HAHA!
