Stock Mach computer limitations????

I keep reading all this stuff lately about stock mach 1 computers and them cutting out at 6800. My old Mach 1 w/ eaton swap ran perfect all the way to the 7250 rpm rev limiter....I would always shift it at 7100 and run out 4th gear till it hit the limiter. What made that car different from all the people having issues with them? I know it was built in the last month of production, did they maybe change something right before the end? Build date 04/14/04

Why were you shifting so high?? Was it on a built or stock motor?

stock and because peaked at 6800 rpm making 478 rwhp and barely dropped off. I ran my fastest trap speeds shifting it that way.....When I first got the car I was trapping 118-119 at 6700 rpm shifts because i was scared to hurt the stock motor.

What gears were you running? sounds like 4.10

158 mph in 4th??, I would think 3:55, even if a particular motor ran up to say 6800 rpm, couldn't you just get a handheld tuner and raise it??

Im confused now. He said he was trapping 118 at 6700 rpm which would be something like a 4.10 gear i would think. Then he said he was trapping 124-125 and running to 7250. But at the end where he said he ran the vette and ran up to 158 in 4th that must have been after a gear swap

NO i was shifting at 6700 back when I was trapping lower speeds. I grew some balls and shifted it on the limiter and it picked up A LOT

The posts I have seen about people having it cut out at 6800 isnt a rev limiter problem its a computer issue supposedly

yes it was 3.55s everything on the car was OEM ford parts except the exhaust and cold air and tuner

Was it a stock eaton that was pullied or was it a ported eaton. Im asking because you said it made peak at 6800. I thought they usually peaked at a lower rpm

Here is the vette video. I was just supposed to be videoing the vette vs gt500. Thats why I start ahead and hit it late. But once I saw the gt500 dropped out I just kept going. I had already raced the vette before and drug him. But this shows how strong it pulled up top and that it never falls off until the rev limiter at 7250

My car has done the 6800 rpm thing. Once in a while it does it, then sometimes its fine. I usually shift at 6800 anyways, but it screws me up when it hesitates right as im shifting.

On a side note, must have been an LS2 corvette. A h/c/i LS3 should get your car pretty good

Yes that vette was an ls2 but I did race a ton of ls3 vettes. Stock ones didnt stand a chance. Cam/longtube cars were usually 1/2-1 car out at 150mph. milled head cam longtubes on e85 smoked my *** by about 3 cars.

This would be correct, shift beyond peak so you are at or closer to peak in the next gear...= higher average power thru the run. Do a search for blkcloud and listen to him...his shifts and lack of mods will make you sick!

exactly ....this was before i knew where the power was peaking at so I wasnt sure how hard I should run it being a high hp stock longblock so I was careful at first.....that lasted about a month then it was only my left foot moving while racing

This is by far my favorite video from my old 7.5psi stock eaton Mach vs a 2.93 pullied ported blower Cobra that weighs 3400 lbs. Desipite being down 50 rwhp I kept up nicely.

I shift like that when in 4th. 456 gear kinda makes me to finish out the qt mile. I have cams and still make power at redline... I've ran it out to 7200 many of times. The only thing I worry about is the oil pump. :/

Ok, an attempt to get this thread back on track, although the other conversation was good as well. But, if I wanted to have the ability to turn 8k RPM, what computer would allow me to do this properly? What is involved with changing to said computer?

BS3, FAST or Holley's new system which is quite reasonable. My friend has installed a few of the holley systems and two of the cars picked up 40rwhp with no other changes. st0ckmach installed a FAST or BS# and picked up about 50hp (along with an intake change) but those two systems cost about $3k. I beleive the Holley systems costs around $1700.

You can also use an MSD 6Mod to control the ignition while letting the stock computer handle the fuel duties.

My choice would be the holley systemhttp://www.force-efi.com/holleyefi.htm. You can use the stock computer to power the dash gauges if you wanted to keep them.

hmm i will have to look into it now. Does it do fuel and spark? Stockmach is using BS3
