Which oil do you guys recommend?

Hi guys,

I drive my Mach1 about 4-5,000 a year(19,3xx miles total, rarely need emissions tests due to low milage), so I change my oil twice a year.

I always use a Motorcraft or FordRacing(friend gets me them at a discount form time to time) oil filter, and the car has always used 5w20 in it from the previous owner, tit I put some 5w-20 RP in it the last change (was all I had in the garage and it was snowing out)

I looked at my local Pepboys for what oils they have in stock and se what my options are. I hear a Xw-30 is better for more "spirited" drivers such as myself.

Which should I go with:
German Castrol 0-w30
Motorcraft Synth blend 5w-30
Lucus oil 5w-30
Mobile1 0w-30

Re: Which oil do you guys recommend?

Local Walmart sells the 5w20 Motorcraft Synthetic blend that Ford recommends. Been using it from day one. They even sell the motorcraft filters.

Re: Which oil do you guys recommend?

I can't say. We just use Mobil1 Synthetic 5-20. With a Motorcraft Filter.

Re: Which oil do you guys recommend?

You can't really go wrong with any of the popular synthetics (amsoil, mobil1, RP, etc). Run 5w30 though, not 5w20. Read swhiteh3's posts.

Re: Which oil do you guys recommend?

Only true synthetics are Amsoil, Royal Purple and Mobil1. All others are still petoleum based.

"Now that the meaning of "is" has gotten so slippery you need to grab it with both hands, we'd better keep an eye on longer words, too.

One's already got so squirmy on us- "synthetic," as in synthetic motor oil.

Most guys know two things about synthetic oils. First, the price is three to four times that of conventional oils. Second, they're not real oil, not made from crude.

News flash: Scratch that second part. Now motor oils derived from crude may be labeled "synthetic." But they still cost over four bucks a quart.

Bait and switch? That's the obvious conclusion. Except in this case the advertising ethics people have given their approval.

Here's what happened, according to a detailed account published in the trade magazine Lubricants World. Late in 1997, Castrol changed the formula of its Syntec "full synthetic motor oil", eliminating the polyalphaolefin (PAO) base stock (that's the "synthetic" part, which makes up about 70% by volume of what's in the bottle) and replacing it with a "hydroisomerized" petroleum base stock.

Mobil Oil Corporation, maker of Mobil 1, "Worlds Leading Synthetic Motor Oil," said no fair and took its complaint to the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. NAD often arbitrates between feuding advertisers on their conflicting claims."

Mobil Oil lost it's case which opened the door to all these other companies coming out with their "synthetic" oil.
