Moddified Bullitt rocker panels *Pics update*

Well I got the front pieces today so I thought I would go ahead and start modding them. I wanted to get rid of the mudflap and the Cobra fronts don't match up to the Bullitt back halves correctly. What they look like originally....

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

And what they looked like after I cut, melted, folded, plastic welded, and smoothed out. Tomorrow I will reinforce the back with plastic bumper repair. Do not try this at home kids.

And here is the difference side by side.

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

I personally like the mud flap. I am curious as to why you did not just buy the Cobra skirt vs going through all this work?

I applaud your efforts though.

I like the way the Bullitt skirts look because they don't flare straight down like Cobra skirts. They follow more of the factory line and have the same contour as the bumpers. Plus I got them for the price of Cobra skirts and I do my own work and paint with the help of my cousin. Most people probably won't even notice that they are Bullitt skirts and just think they are Cobra skirts.

It's not to bad to do. I have about an hour in that one, maybe another hour in it tommorow including primer. I'm going to try to take pictures of the process tommorow when I do the other side if anyone is interested in seeing them.

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

Here's the tools used (plus a heatgun)

Started by cutting out a piece to be able to melt and fold over the flap.

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

Get it soft enough to make it plyable but not melted and fold over to meet the front part that goes in the wheel well area. Then heat and smooth like butter. Takes practice to get it just right. Don't worry about getting it perfect just yet.

[/IMG]
Then cut out the bottom of the flap leaving enough to fold over and meet the front part that goes into the wheel well area. Melt, fold, and smooth it in.

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

Used a heat gun to get the corner hot and butter it in over the areas that were chopped.
[IMG][/IMG]
[/IMG]
Take your time and you may have to let plastic cool to hold its shape. You can melt some of the plastic you cut off and "weld" it into the backside for strength. You can grind it down to get the rough shape and also use some of the old plastic to fill low spots and regrind.
[/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
Use 80 grit on a DA when you get down the general shape to take it down smoother and straighter. You can then use glaze to fill in pits and prime and sand a few times to get it all straightened out good.

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

And my cousins ride that we are trying to finish up. Note the molded Cobra spoiler and extra meat on the corners of the quarters to match up to the spoiler. Also, my idea and design, quad fog lamps.

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

Wow.......that is sick. I love the way you molded in the spoiler. Great idea, and the final results are amazing. You have a good eye for the body lines there.

It's my uncles body shop that he has owned and worked himself for 30 years. This is his sons (aka my cousins) car. Been doing custom stuff there for along time. I go in and help out when I can and work on my own stuff and help my cousin with his. We both have hundreds of hours in this car (him a lot more than me) and I think the results speak for themselves. Emblems are frenched, antenna delete, engine bay and hood holes filled, engine compartment painted, and a couple (mind blowing) things I'm not allowed to reveal until it gets in a magazine. And no its not a trailer queen, ran a 12.01 with some common bolt ons (traction limited). Next thing to go on is CCW classics he bought from Graves. 335/30/18's going on the rear.

I new that car looked familiar! lol

Awesome work on those flaps! I've been wanting to do that to mine for a long time...I always scrape speed bumps with them.

PM sent.

I would have to ask my cousin if he would be interested. Graves has first dibs on getting them done if my cousin decides to do them.

Would you mind asking? I would like to know how much it would cost and how long it would take to fabricate. Thx

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

Will do. If I ever get the back halves delivered (FedEx problems) I can test fit mine to make sure they fit, but they should since they kept the same shape as the original. Doing one side of the flap at a time helps with that. If we end up doing more either me or my cousin will have to leave rocker panels off one of our cars to test fit them...probably mine since I'd feel bad if he had to repaint his Candy Cobalt blue. House of Kolor is $$$!!

Re: Moddified Bullitt rocker panels

I'm going to post some pics of them up when they are painted. My cousin gave them a coat of glaze and got them in primer this past weekend and hopefully will get some paint on them and my mirrors done as well this next weekend.
