I was actually told that with the 4 post, the weight on the engine in the front of the car preloads the suspension therefore making it ok

You need to have the weight of your car supported by the suspension. Therefore, you have to be on a drive-on ramp.

Anyone looking to weld subframe connectors........do yourself a favor and listen to the above posts.................
if anyone tells you anything other than a drive on lift........get the hell out of there quick! Years ago.....(1995 or so) I had a set of Dugan racing subframe connectors (before full length were availabe) welded on my '91 LX using a post lift and the doors wouldn't close if the car was ever driven onto a ramp or put on a lift.
