Hey again,

Just got the good news that I'll most likely be getting my summer job back so it's time to decide on the next round of parts! I have done a good amount of suspension work (see sig), but am ready to finish it off. The car will be my daily for another year or so but is still hardly ever driven. Once I finish school, the car will be torn to pieces and have some serious motor and transmission work done. My long term goal is a car that puts down ~600RWHP (most likely turbo) and handles like an F1 car. I know Mustangs aren't the best platform for this goal, but it's what I've wanted for years. With that being said, I've made a rear end to-do list I'd like for y'all to critique. I have a basic idea of what's needed, but haven't picked specific parts/brands.

1) Differential - recommendations?
2) 31 Spline axles/carriers - Moser?
3) New 3.55s or 3.73s
4) ARP wheel studs (have waiting)
5) Lower control arms - prob MM, delrin or urethane?
6) Coil overs - length and rate?
7) Watts link (maybe panhard. Paired with torque arm?)
8) Welded torque boxes - Definitely need help here. Just worry about the bottom or pull carpet and do top as well?
9) Upper shock brace

Not sure how they hold up to drag racing, but the Eaton posi and TruTrac are probably your best diff choices.

MM XD spherical LCAs (not sure how the road race ones hold up to drag racing, might be worth asking them).

Watts link requires a torque arm also. Your options would be to dump huge money on the Griggs watts link setup, or try the Fays2 watts link and a different manufacturers torque arm. If you want the simple and stupid method, get the MM phb and HD torque arm and call it a day.

Coilovers a good starting point for spring rates is 100lb lower than the fronts. MM sport/race dampers (perferably) or Koni DAs are your only choices for handling.

Upper shock brace = shock tower brace? Useless.

And before you spend any money, throw away any hope of it ever "handling like an F1 car".

+1 on the true track. Hold up great in straight line and work well for auto cross and other corner carving. Moser Wave track is a new one I would look at.

MM XD. lowers

MM Panhard and torque arm.

I had 10/350s up front and 9/250s out back will bilisteins. it handled well but sure MM or some of the experienced road racers will have better input. I would definitely do adjustables.

If you well up the torque boxes and install reinforcement kit they will install from the top as well as the bottom.


Cheapest handling solution. Buy a mazda miata

TruTrac is like $4xx

Maybe the wave lock is more of an open track type? Like the one the Boss uses (cant remember the name).

A bit early, but if you've still got them here in a month or so, I'll get back to you.

As for the rest of you, thanks for the advice. So, rear shock brace needs to be taken off the list? As for the differential, I had no idea some ran that high for our cars. But if it's what is going to satisfy my wants, I don't mind picking it up.

@TRMachWon, I know my Mach 1 will never achieve even a fraction of what an F1 car can do but I can dream haha.

I didn't say it was cheep. I said look at it.

Both the true trac and the wave loc are like the one the boss uses. The boss has a gear drive differential made by Torsen (also a 1k diffy). It a 2.7:1 Torque bias ratio diffy, the T2R has a higher ratio I believe 4:1. True trac is also 4:1 according to the tech guys at eaton. I have talked to moser at the track but the sales rep did not have a tbs stat for me. It is however the only one (according to moser) that torque biases on deceleration as well as the ability to transfer torque from a completely free spinning wheel. Oh yea the moser guy told me it is lifetime guaranteed no matter what. Those factors alone would make me want to try it. Is it worth double the price.... who knows.
