Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

Starting to research this a bit. It's for a dump trailer which is used for pretty much anything you can think of but mainly needs to be able to withstand the abuse of dumping busted up concrete in it. The idea would be that the product would help avoid denting up the metal... Any input would be great.

Re: Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

Well I have helped one of my buddies use the DIY roll on stuff, it works fine, just seems to be a little bit thin, an I don't know how long it will hold up... since the DIY stuff still isn't that cheap, an its for a dump trailer I would call like Rhino spray on because, there's is a lot more thick when applied plus would prob hold up better an its got a lifetime policy.

So you can chance it with the cheap stuff, may work fine for what ya need, but I would pay a lil more an get the real deal an not have to worry bout it.

I used Herculiner when it first came out...hated it! Went and had Line-X done over top of it and loved it. Go with either Line-X or Rhino liner. You won't regret it.

yep. do yourself a favor and if your planning on keeping the truck go with line-x.

the spray stuff just plain sux, the roll on stuff is decent but wears pretty quick if you actually toss stuff in and out of the bed on a normal basis

I think yall guy's missed the point of him using it to keep the truck from getting dented.

Either way, I don't thing there's nothing you can do to really protect the bed of a dump truck from getting dented. Especially when you plan on throwing around concrete chunks in there.

I pictured a dumptruck, not a pickup truck. My grandfather has 3 dumptrucks and I don't think theres much you can do to protect them from getting dented.

Re: Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

I saw on tv they were spraying the stuff on buildings to bomb proof them, that's when I really thought of doing this. LOL, I figured if it can stop a wall from blowing up it should stop the concrete from denting the bed, but I really dont know... My first idea was having it done pro, but I started looking the stuff up and saw there is DIY stuff so that's why I'm asking if anyone has experience with it. Because my concern would be that it'd just bust out the first time I started dumping concrete in it. I've asked others about this and everyone says pretty much the same, the DIY is too thing and won't hold up.

I have a Line-x place local, I'll see what they have to say about it.

Re: Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

The Line-X really does a great job at stopping things from tearing up and denting the beds of our company work truck. Since we remodel homes there is always a ton of crap that makes its way into the bed of our truck once the trailer gets full and concrete, tile, and whatnot seem to do little harm to it.

Re: Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

I've used several of the spray on/roll on liners. Herculiner, Duplicolor, etc. They all are a poor version of RhinoLiner, LineX, Superliner, etc. and good at cosmetically covering things, not actually protecting the truck. I've got my F-150 bed done with Superliner and it's been great! Takes a beating and doesn't get damaged.

Re: Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

He could have the bed Line-x'd then put down a very thick, rubber bed mat on top of that. I've seen some heavy duty bed mats that looked about a 1/2" thick.

The only problem with that is it's a dump trailer, so I can't imagine anything being able to hold the mat in place as 7 tons of concrete slide out of it.

Thanks for the responses, I'm glad I decided to think this through.

Theres actually a bunch of different brands, Summit sells some Duplicolor liner, but from everything I've seen it's one of the least durable brands. Search google and you'll get lots of results for places selling the stuff.

Re: Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

Oh yeah, you did say a dump trailor. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to prevent dents then, but I think you can get Line-X or Rhino lining sprayed in in varying thicknesses, so check into that.

Re: Anyone ever use a DIY spray/roll on bedliner?

Cost me about $500 to Line-X my truck's bed. It's stout and it was worth it over the DIY kind.
