Re: without IUP ?
I did not realize there were MACHs out there with out the IUP, but I guess it would not really be an "upgrade" if everyone had it now would it?

Re: without IUP ?
i dunno how much how the head rests cost but replacing them requires disasembling the top half of the seat to replace em...nice huh?

Re: without IUP ?
The head rests can be obtained at your local Ford dealer. They are about 75 dollars each. There is a trick to remove them and it involves slipping a flat thin piece of metal (similar to a slim jim) down the seat back through the top in order to disengauge a clip that will release the current head rest from its track. The procedure can be found on the internet. And yes there are mach1's that came with out IUP. My mach 1 was ordered with out IUP. But the mach1's that dont have IUP have head rests that look more like the original mach1 head rests from the 69 and 70 models so iam keeping mine in place.

Re: without IUP ?
I had no idea there were 2 types of headrests, you guys are so Mach-literate. I special ordered my 04 Mach and assumed they all had the 4 way headrest, the only option I knew of or was offered was the interior upgrade.
However, I must exercise will power and not check out the other headrest, my New Year's resolution was not to buy any more Mach parts this year (I know, you're saying "yeah right") - it's not even mid-January and I'm already having aftermarket parts withdrawal symptoms.

Re: without IUP ?
Got my from a buddy at a dealer. It was easy getting the passenger side one off but the driver side sucked. Did that thin piece of metal down the back and everything and did not work. So I got a big screw driver with the help of another person and just pryed that sucker out.

Re: without IUP ?
Yes, you heard me correctly. I can get them through my local Ford dealer for 75 dollars each. If some one quoted you 185.00.. your getting severly ripped off.

Well, I will double check into this. But i do want to make clear that the dealerships control how much mark up on Ford parts. It could be that my local dealer has lower mark up on some parts they carry. If this is the case i just may be a little more fortunate than some of you guys. But i was quoted 180.00 for both headrests. I will report back soon. |

Re: Without IUP Headrests?
Well, i hate to burst everyones bubble, but i just found out today that the IUP 4 way headrests just went up in price after the first of the year. My dealer wouldnt honor the 1st quote i got from them because it was a while ago when i inquired about them. I should have bought them when i had a chance because that was a cheap price for 180.00. They would have honored the quote but it expired after 90 days acording to the statement i got from the parts dept. So, the way it is for an average joe blow off the street is 150.00 for each. However, since my wife works at our local Ford dealer she gets a 10% discount which means i can get them for 135.89. The part number for the IUP headrests are as followed. 3R3Z-63611A08-CAD.... the number is the same for both sides.

Re: Without IUP Headrests?
IUP? What does that stand for?
My car came with Upgraded Interior Kit and as such, I have the 4 way adjustable (great for autocross racing). Are the headrest with "Mach 1" on them 4 way? Thanks, Michael

Re: Without IUP Headrests?
The "mach 1" headrests are not factory. And all the ones I recall seeing have been on the 4 way ones. Read all about them on THIS THREAD

Re: Without IUP Headrests?
I have The IUP. I didn't even know the headrests (4-way) were part of the package. What is meant when they say 4-way? Is it up, down, tilt forward, tilt backward? That's the only movent that mine make....I think. Dammit, now I gotta go play with my headrests and it's raining.....

Yep, you are correct. I don't have the IUP package, mine are smaller and only move up and down, I don't have the tilt feature. The non IUP ones look like the headrests on the old '60s cars. You know, I haven't seen a pic of the non IUP ones. I'll have to take one tomorrow and post it up just for comparison! |

Re: Without IUP Headrests?
Newbie here. My father-in-law has a DSG 03 Mach 1 but he's not a big Internet guy so I thought I would look around. His does not have the IUP, but his headrests look like the standard Mustang headrests and not the old-school headrests that you just linked to. I will have to verify that someone didn't put the IUP headrests in, but I'm pretty definite that they don't swivel forward and backward because that's something that he would like to have when driving.
