Need suspension advice

Ok, now that I got a few bolt on's I wanted to do finished, I think I am going to do a little suspension upgrades. But I need help.

I dont know the proper names for some of what I want to ask so I will describe it the best I can.

I know I want to upgrade all my bushings to polyurathane, right?

My car is a DD'er, but I would love to be able to have a car that can run good at the track, but still do decent around a corner, but I'm not trying to make my car a Porche or anything of that nature.

The car has already been dropped about 1-1.5" with Eibach springs. And I dont want it any lower, I like the height its at right now.

I want to upgrade ALL the shocks and struts, and from reading I think I'll deff. go with Bilstein, but I also want to replace the *shocks that are horizontal on the rear axle and bolt up-to the body aswell*

I noticed alot of the bushings in the sus. are dryrotted and need replacing, and ive read that poly. is a great choice?

I thought about coilovers but I dont know if thats is worth the money?

I'm also thinking about going to a PSR k member while I'm at it.

Thanks! And can you also point me in the right direction to shop at?

Re: Need suspension advice

I would do:

Maximum Motorsports Caster Camber Plates.
Maximum Motorsports Lower Control Arms in the rear.
Check the condition of the bushings in your stock uppers in the rear otherwise stick with the stationary uppers no need for adjustables for a driver with the occassional track run.

Check the condition of the quad shocks before replacing them (those are what you were referring to that you didn't know the name of).

Poly bushings are fine as are Bilstein brand shocks.

For a DD I wouldn't go rushing into tearing into the front end and replacing the K-member and going coil over. Use the money you save from that for some other go-fast parts or asthetics...

CJ Pony Parts is a good source for parts as is Ebay and Summitt Racing...

Im sure if you hit up the search button you will find a ton of info also!!!

Re: Need suspension advice

Thanks for the info. I know the PO but caster camber plates in it, he told me they are UPR shark plates? Because he dropped the car with Eibach springs.

And yeah I think I'm having second thoughts about the coil overs, I will to the K member one day but I wont worry about that right now.

Maybe the bilstein ---- ? all the way around and poly bushings would be good?

Yup with that much of a drop I am sure you would need C/C plates.

Re: Need suspension advice

To the OP for a daily driver I would do

Full length weld in subframes
MM LCA's (dump the quad shocks all together)
Bilstiens struts/shocks

Then spend anything left on, if you do not already have installed.
exhaust
shifter
intake spacer
gears
tune

Then
Burnouts!

Re: Need suspension advice

if you drop your car lower than 1.25 you need caster and camber plates so it drives correct.

i would do full length sub-frame conn
caster and camber plates
rear lower and upper control arms
strut tower brace
front and rear swaybar
tokico d-spec shocks and struts

go from there and if you want more than build on it. the coil over would be cool and i think maybe just worth the money, but with you already have it lower i would get the other stuff and then try the coil over.

Re: Need suspension advice

everyone who says coilovers are not worth it say that cuz they dont have them on their car imo. ive has a few different spring setups and switching to coilovers was so night and day. higher rate springs and ridiculously improved geometry make such a difference in handling.

Re: Need suspension advice

I didn't really look into the Bilsteins when I upgraded shocks but you might want to look into the Tokico d-specs. The D-Specs are adjustable and $550 to your door. www.shox.com

You can get the full poly kit for about $199. It includes most of the bushing, I know the motor mounts and tranny mount aren't included though.

Sub Frame connectors, front/rear strut tower brace but I'm pretty sure the front won't fit with the Steeda RAI(IIRC), and adjustable LCA's.

That would be a pretty good start.
