Re: My New Kris Starnes & Al Papito Longblock

well i got the headers on and finished a few more things today. i think i want to leave the xpipe off to hear this thing rumble on first startup.

i'm having a hell of a time trying to get the coolant hoses off the stock radiator to put on the new one. any suggestions?

after the hoses go on, it's time to fill with fluids, crank the motor over for oil pressure, throw in some tr6's, and then fire it up!

Heat it up with a torch , they will slip right off . Just make sure you keep the tip off the rubber and you move the heat around evenly .

Re: My New Kris Starnes & Al Papito Longblock

thanks, that was my next step. i left the whole assembly out in the sun yesterday to see if it would heat up but only the metal brackets did. i'll try my heat gun first then move on to the torch. had to go shopping yesterday for a bunch more little things like new compression fittings, coolant, oil, plugs, etc. hopefully by tuesday it'll run

Re: My New Kris Starnes & Al Papito Longblock

I had the chance to see this car in person over the weekend. Wow I must say I was impressed... this guy has some awesome attention to detail and takes no shortcuts. The sound of the car is exacty how I wish my future setup will sound like, it has that old school rumble with new school attitude. Mark is a great guy to talk with and would not ask any questions if he asked a favor from me. Hope you get that car tuned and see 9's brother. - Zach

Re: My New Kris Starnes & Al Papito Longblock

OK so if I still have any followers, you may be disappointed in me. Things have gone absolutely nowhere really.

After my crazy summer semester of college, I went to the Keys for lobster season and haven't messed with the car at all. And now with my LAST semester of school started and paid for I am back on low funds so...

I have decided to up the ante on exhaust. No more is the full stainless and ceramic Bassani that I have been satisfied with for 3 years. I have been looking at American Racing Header company or Kooks for stainless long tubes.

I talked to, and I apologize if the name is incorrect, but I believe it's Nick, the owner of American Racing Headers. He recommended 1 3/4" primary tubes merging into a 3" collector then tapering to 2 1/2" in order to bolt to any cat-back system for my application. He seemed more than happy to talk to me and wanted to make the headers for my car. It is this kind of customer service that he prides himself on and wins customers over. He also said he'd bend me a set of turndown pipes to throw on the back of my Bassani (or any 2 1/2") mufflers.

The question is, should I do ARH or Kooks, which I have heard awesome things about for fitment, power levels, etc? Either way, I do feel that I have power left on the table if I don't switch having such a stout motor.

I want to get this sort of thing worked out before Justin tunes the car so I don't have to go back later and spend more $$. I know this all may sound ironic to my low funds statement but jeeze $55k in parts later, I want my car to run **** fast!!! I haven't raced in a year and a half since Pinks All Out Gainesville...

I guess one last point for now. My buddy has a virtually brand new set of Borla Stinger mufflers. Should I attempt to sell my Bassani system as a whole and use the different mufflers and turn downs, or just throw the turndowns on the Bassani? With the bracing on my rear end and anti-roll bar, tail pipes aren't an essential to me anymore. Hey less weight too!!

Zach, sorry to steal your header pic but some may not know how nice the ARH stuff really is:

Re: My New Kris Starnes & Al Papito Longblock

We'll when it comes to headers, and I've had both kooks and american racing, it's really which stamp you want on the driver's side header.... kook's or arh? Honestly they are just two great companies to go with, no questions about it. I wish you weren't so far away as I would help you out with your exhaust system, I'm just about to bend up my 3" catback for drag racing only.

Hell just sell the whole exhaust system and start from scratch! I love the sound of borla stingers... it should sound awesome with those higher lift cams aswell. I've got a set of brand new flowmaster 44-series if you ever want to try them out.
