Decided to have my hood repainted

I went to a auto body shop today and got a quote to paint my entire hood Flat black. Once it's painted I will put my hood decals back on but they will be red to match my torch red paint.

The quote was $200.00 I'm going for it. I hope to drop off my hood next week sometime. They said They will put the hood back on my car when I drive their to pick up my hood and the install wil be included in the price. Not bad at all.

I got another quote for $450.00 from another place with a fancy website and building. I'm going with the $200.00 quote, their shop was really nice too and clean and it's well in my budget.

I'll post a couple pictures when it's finished, without the hood decals and after I put the hood decals on.

does not sound like a bad quote depending on the quality of paint they are using and how much effort they put into prepping the hood

looking forward to the pics of the final product

$200 is a good price. Flat black should be less expensive than a normal two stage process because you can do flat black as a single stage. Less materials = less cost. Although flat colors are more challenging because they are more difficult to get even coverage because it shows more.

not sure where you're going with this
there is no such thing as a premixed flat black produced by paint manufacturers (except in a rattle can, which I would certainly hope they are not using to spray his hood).
a dulling agent has to be added to the paint to make it "flat" vs "glossy". this is what makes it difficult to get the correct glean as you may end up with eggshell, satin or flat - which is why paint manufactures literally have pages of tables for mixing paint.

any paint sprays the same after the mixing is done. coverage is based on the experience of the person holding the spray gun.
