Mods this Spring

Guys i am looking into doing some mods to my car this spring, so far i have SLP catbacks, diablo tuner, UDP's. I know about the risk with the pulleys, but car is an auto and doesnt see high rpms often. What do you guys think, im gonna have about 500 bucks to go with, I am thinking 4.10 gears and trac loc rebuild and install kit., 3/8 intake spacer, and maybe one other small mod. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Car is driven every couple days and it will be mostly highway driven.

Are you going to install the gears yourself?

I was also thinking about some cobra cams, if I were to do that, would I need anything besides the gears. Btw the car only has 68k

I say skip the udp's and intake spacer, go with an SCT tuner, do the 4.10s and trac lock and degree the cobra cams.

Already have the UDP's on, and have a diablo tuner, is SCT any different?

Re: Mods this Spring

He wouldn't really benefit from the Cobra cams. He needs to be able to rev it up to 7k to see the benefit from those.

I'd say do the 4.10s and tlok rebuild. And skip the spacer, and go with a stall next. Then you can rev the car up higher.

Since I've heard the only thing that limits the autos from being able to rev up to 6800 is the stock converter. Plus my buddies auto Mach picked up a full second in the 1/4 from a new convertor.

Then if you do that, go with Cobra cams and a ported intake manifold.

Re: Mods this Spring

I know my torque converter has been upgraded a little bit, due to a blown trans at 37k, idk as far as specs, it lets it go to 1800 before it starts spinning so not a lot but a little bit.

Re: Mods this Spring

In that case, midpipe and 4.10s is my vote.

Re: Mods this Spring

Are you the type to hate drone and loud noise? Do you have LM1s or LM2s?

If it was me, I'd say get the least expensive one. Aluminized steel one from Jegs or Summit Racing for $170. Great bang for the buck mod.

If your picky about noise levels, can't change it out yourself for emissions, then stick with the stock one.

If you want a perfect fit, shell out the cash for magnaflow, bassani, or mrt.

Re: Mods this Spring

If you have slp's or any straight through mufflers I'd look into a catted or o/r x pipe

Re: Mods this Spring

I got 4:10's with the bearing pressed and all shims for sale if your interested, all you need is the oil. If your going with a midpipe, I run a UPR catted, its decently priced, fits great and sounds good too.

Whats the benefit of catted vs non catted, I know Iowa doesn't really have any restrictions when it comes to it.

Re: Mods this Spring

If you look at the stock cats when you take out the stock h pipe, you will see. They are two big screens. And the aftermarket midpipes are 2.5" instead of 2.25".

Now non catted vs stock = good gains
Non catted versus 1 pair of high flow cats = minimal gains

I'd like to add:
Non catted= neighbors hate you=can't hear a conversation in the car

Im running Borla stingers and o/r mangaflow x pipe and it's not too bad, it is loud but if I don't get on and stay under 2k rpm it really isn't loud at all. Has a nice "bubbly" sound but not obnoxious. I've had the car 2 years and live in a neighborhood and haven't gotten any complaints so far. And as far as not having a conversation in the car, with stock 3.55s at 70 mph on the highway it is pretty loud and there is some drone so if your looking to travel or commute, I'd recommend catted but for around town and the occasional road trip I'll take my o/r x any day.

Can't fool me Sir! I had the Borla stingers and bassani x without cats and didn't last for more than 2 days. Put the cats back in and got me some flows. Now it is quiet thunder with some drone
Exhaust is very subjective though anyways. I suggest go to a car show and listen for yourself, better yet , drive a buddy's car.

I couldn't imagine spending 1000 dollars on an exhaust set up only to have it on for 2 days

+ 1 on hitting up the car shows

Re: Mods this Spring

AM has a pretty good deal. I'd just order it from them, hard to find anything quality for less.
