555r's with 555's?

Hey guys, finally looking to get some new tires, and throw the afs 10.50s i got a couple months ago out back so i can stop looking like a little girl with my 245s haha. I want to get 315s out back and just run 245s up front. I was thinking about running nitto 555r's in 315 since they are even cheaper than the regular 555's, and will hook alot better. How long can i expect out of them? How good will they hook on the street compared to my stock 245s or even compared to the regular 555 in 315? My can is Not a dd and does not get driven all that much so im figuring if i can have more fun in my car on the street when i do drive it, it will be worth it. These tires will not be used for the track as i have different 15 inch radials for that. My last question is that I would want to run the regular 555 out front in the stock 245 size. Iv heard people say this is a no no mixing tire types like that and other people say its fine. Whats the real answer to that? And will it have any adverse handling effects?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: 555r's with 555's?

I went from 245's in the back to the 555r's 315 and it was a night and day difference. With the 245's i would spin through 2nd with a little wheel spin in 3rd if I slammed the gears. I have yet to be able to spin with the 555r's (granted my car is lightly modded) but the difference between the two was night and day. You should be able to get 10000 miles out of them easy if you don't do burnouts everywhere you go, I think the max is something like 15000 miles. As far as the two different tire's front and back, I don't know the correct answer to that but I'm running two different tires and it handles and rides beautifully with 275's in the front.

Re: 555r's with 555's?

Is mixing tires fine? Yes. Will it have adverse handling effects? Yes. If you drive like a normal law abiding citizen you won't notice a difference. But if you're the kind of person that likes to fly around highway exits and curvy back roads you'll probably be unhappy. Running a wider and stickier tire in the rear will make the car understeer worse than it already does. The drag radials also have a softer sidewall. BUT if you want to be able to put your foot down in first gear and dead hook on the street, drag radials are your ticket.

Re: 555r's with 555's?

The mixing of tires probably means "NO radial and bias ply mixing".

Example: drag slicks(bias ply) and street tires(radials),although it's done all the time. Bias ply tires have far less steel belts which make them flex more and puncture easier.

What you want to do is okay.

Re: 555r's with 555's?

usually 10.5" wide wheels for 315s

my opinion is to go with the 555R tires out back. i think it looks better (meaner) than the 555. i got a set on my rear wheels and my car isn't my DD either, and they have held up great. i've always had street tires up front and never had problems mixing the two.

Re: 555r's with 555's?

Yea i got 17x10.5's in the garage waiting on rubber.

I think i am going to go with the 555r. LT SMASH, how much does it actually affect the handling. Im sure it will handle better than my mt et. streets in 26x 10.5 x 15 (yes, i only use those for the track) but how much worse than regular street tires in stock trim? I think im willing to give up some handling for a bunch more traction for the street.

Re: 555r's with 555's?

i felt like it gripped the road much better, but i don't do much cornering or notice too much of the handling side. You should be happy with the traction though.
