I know another t stat thread

OK i am looking for a 170* thermostat.

I know the risks but since my car is basicly only raced it dosent get driven to work it dosen't goto the grocery store, it gets driven too the drag strip and the road course.

the problem i am finding is that there seems too be only 170* thermostat on the market that will even fit a mach 1

autozone, o'reily, advance auto, napa, carquest, all say that they have a 170 in the catalog but they are the incorrect ones that would cause the engine too over head because they dont cover the larger bypass on the mach 1.

i found this one (http://reischeperformance.com/#anchor) but kinda pricey

Re: I know another t stat thread

did it have the correct bottom on the bottom valve? we went through all 5 of them that they had listed and they were all the same (the one for the gt sohc)

i think thats the reason why so many people had problems wit over heating with a 170*thermostat is because its just recirculating the hot coolant.

What risks are you talking about? I haven't found any issues with temps that low.

Re: I know another t stat thread

there are studies that say that you increase the wear the lower the temp of the oil.

that being said i haven't seen any data with synthetic oils just old dinosaur oils.

according to svtp the hypertech is for a sohc idk if its correct or not

here's a question? do all 4 valves take the same thermostat? because hypertech only lists a thermostat for early cobras

I don't even remember. It didn't look any different then the one I pulled out.

It is 100 degrees here. I'd imagine if it was incorrect and not running through the radiator id have noticed the overheating issue.

Re: I know another t stat thread

Here is a crazy 154, but i think this will build up gunk inside your engine and kill your fuel economy even though your mach is for the track
