Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

It only raises it about 3/8" inch, and pics aren't really going to show that little bit of change very well.

Pros: looks a little better

Cons: none if you don't raise it too much and possibly crack the hood

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

How many inches should it be raised as to not crack the hood?

Read the instructional thread, it's been a while since I read it, but it should give you all the answers. DON'T go too high!

If I am not your so called handy man at installing stuff on my mach 1. What kind of shop should I bring my car to with the instructions Dave has given?

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

This is a good mod at which to start being a handyman. You remove the accordion shaped piece of air duct between the shaker ane the airbox (either end), remove the two bolts on either dide of the shaker base that are located under the conical bump on either side of the shaker water shield, pull up on the shaker, and it will pop off. Four ball studs are thus exposed (the shaker sits on these), remove these carefully (they are plastic) and place 3-4 1/4" washers beneath them and reinstall them. Reassemble in reverse order....push down on the top of the shaker after you set it onto the ball studs to make sure it's fully seated, reinstall the two side bolts, and reattach the air duct.

Do you really want someone at a shop doing something like this?

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

I did this a week ago, just for something to do. Raised only about 3/16" using some washers, lubed. Never had a rattle, still don't. I DO think the shaker shakes a little more, which I LIKE! Seemed like it wasn't doing that much before. Anybody else think that after doing the free mod here?
Fun little thing to try.
Thanks for the good how-to guys!:ORANGE:

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

Okay so another free mod I noticed is removing the air intake silencer. What benefits does this have?

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

I raised my shakera couple of weeks ago and put 2,000 miles on her with no problems as far my hood cracking. Wow it looks allot better then the factory height, looks way more aggressive!

I used some spacers that I had and drilled them out and used them in the front only...and placed them under the shaker bracket. Came out great and didn't use any washers. If anyone needs some of these spacers I have another set. I'll drill them out and send them to you no charge. Let me know.

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

Are there any benefits from raising the shaker or is it just for looks?

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

A couple pics of my raised shaker. Stock shaker looked "sunken" in the hood so had to raise it to proudly display it!

Re: Raising the Shaker - Step by Step

I followed RedRocket's lead on this one, the 1/2 inch spacer in the front under the bracket look awesome!
