A very sad day in the Trek world...

For those of us here who watch or follow Star Trek, we have suffered a terrible loss today. Majel Barrett Roddenberry, known for roles in the Trek series as Nurse Chapel, Lwaxana Troi, as well as the voice of the various ship computers (including the upcoming Trek feature film) has passed away. She played Number One in the original pilot for the series and then married series creator Gene Roddenberry, who passed away some 15 years ago.
She was a great lady, whom I had the pleasure of meeting, and I also had the luck to see them both together when she surprised him at a seminar he gave at LSU.

She will be sorely missed...

A very sad day indeed. I think she was very much like what you saw on TV.

Youre very right on that. Her personality was very much what you saw in the Lwaxana Troi character she played, and she was a very smart person as well. She was very much responsable for the much of the marketing of Trek, and ran her own company, Lincoln Enterprises. I think I may still have one of their early catalogs from back in the mid-70's.

I clicked on the thread thinking you were talking about mountain bikes. Shows how much I know.

Don't think your alone. I went out to the garage to see if my Trek 930 Singletrack had fallen over dead.

Bummer, just more proof that nobody lives forever. I did click the link and was surprised that the good nurse was also Trois Ma on TNG. Also never new she married Rodenberry. For those hardcore Trekkies out there, I guess Spock will never get a hard-on again.

Sorry to see this and as much as a Star Trek fan I thought I was I did not know she was Nurse Chapel or the voice of the computer. Learn something new every day.

Re: A very sad day in the Trek world...

Her last 'role' in Trek will be as the voice of the computer in JJ Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie this coming summer. She completed her portion before she passed away.
