head unit shim problem

installed a p1sc. my belt keeps jumping one rib towards the motor. took it back to the shop and they said they re-shimmed it. after about 100 miles it has jumped one rib again. i could take the head unit off myself. was wondering if anyone has had this problem or has any advice.

Re: head unit shim problem

After more than 23K miles of uses, I have never puked a belt. I did have to place a washer between the bottom head unit bracket and the pulley. Essentially this placed the head unit further towards the rear and the s/c pulley is so close to the valve cover that I dont think I can pass a piece of paper between the pulley and the valve cover.

I installed it myself and I thought that the head unit pulley was too far forward so I added the washer to the bottom mount bolt thus kicking the top (the s/c pulley) aft towards the alternator pulley.

Re: head unit shim problem

I installed my kit exactly the way the directions said. Then I had to use my own judgment and REMOVE a washer. Double checked directions and it's supposed to be there, but it kept throwing my belt off 2 ribs. After I removed the washer everything lined up better and I've never had a problem since.

Re: head unit shim problem

If you are using the single shoulder pulley get rid of it.
