Email from Tremec

I emailed Tremec yesterday after my incident with my Dealer and the service department.

I was surprised to get a response from Tremec within a couple of hours.

What does Tremec say about the transmission in the Mach1?

You will need to go back to your Ford dealer, very shortly a TSB should be released by them to fix this condition.

I was told the same thing by Tremec a couple months ago. Tremec has not responded to my last 3 or 4 emails regarding the subject.

Follow up email from Tremec:

What about 3rd

This is great news but has anyone heard anything about the 3rd gear lock-out problem? I am hoping that it is the next TSB or has one already been issued.

the 3rd gear lockout is not a TSB yet. It is rumored that this will somehow fix that as well, but theres no real word on it yet.

I can only hope that these parts will also elimenate the quote "gear rollover noise" that I experience. Since the 2nd gear looks like it is replaced, I have high hopes.

I have a question for those who experience the 3rd gear lockout. From what I have read, this occurs most often when the RPM's are higher and you are trying to shift quickly. Is it possible that this happens because as you shift with the stock shifter with it's wide gates, that you hit the gate somewhere in the middle, instead of hitting the slot for third. Then in normal shifting fashion, you are letting the clutch out at the same time-for the best shift- and in missing this, and letting out the clutch, it speeds up the tranny's internals causing a need for things to slow down again before you can get the shifter to go into third gear? It seems that those with an aftermarket shifter no longer have this problem. But most aftermarket shifters are designed to assist in their flow from 2nd to 3rd. These are just my thoughts on this, and I respect all other's opinions on this. I just do not remember ever seeing a manual tranny "lock out" a gear due to high rpm's in my 12 years as a trans repair guy. I expect a little feedback on this and I'm sure it will cause a little controversy, but I'm just putting the idea out there for discussion. Any thoughts are appreciated.

for making this statement - I'm convinced (although I don't race my car) that the problem is not a "lock-out" - but exactly as you state - trying to jam the shifter into 3rd...but missing the notch. I get this at times, even when I'm *not* revving it high...I think it's just me as a driver being stubborn, and trying to make the shift lever go where it isn't supposed to...

OTOH, the 1/2 crunch when cold is annoying as all get-out, and I'm ready for a real fix to that problem.

it would help a great deal if you posted the FULL email.. not just parts of it.. block out names if you wish.. but please post the entire email(s). Then at least i could print them to take to the dealer.
