I would venture to bet your rubbing due to profile not width.

Re: Any pics of 255/40/17 on 17x9?

255/40/17 is a short wheel to me (overall diameter)

im running 255/45/18 on mine up front. which is 2 inches taller then the op's suggested tire size.

to the op: even though my profile is 5% larger at 45 vs 40 i assume this question is about the look of a 255 on "a wide for the tire" 9inch rim.

here is a side shot of a 255 section width tire on a 9 inch rim.

Front wheel is a 18x9 with a 255/45/18

Far Wheel is a 18x10.5 with a 305/45/18

wasn't the 255/45/17 on the 17x9 wheel the stock size for the 95 Cobra R? Those looked good. A 40 series might be a little to short IMO.

Here is a pic of 255/40/17 on 17x9 FR500's. It isn't the best shot, but here you go.

Ya but he said he is lowered. I've seen 275s up front on lowered new edge mustangs before with no problem. But with a lower profile.

factory HEIGHT. not width.

275/40/17 = 25.66 overall diameter

OE tire size (245/45/17) = 25.68 overall diameter.

Re: Any pics of 255/40/17 on 17x9?

Thanks guys for the pics and replies. I know 275/40/17 is exact stock ride height and right diameter for our cars. That is what I have on it now. But for some reason with the H&R super sport springs and MM CC plates when ever I turn fully I am rubbing the inside fender well because of the width. I know some brand tires might be wider than others even though it's the same size, you know. I have the Sumitomos on the front. But the car to me just felt to weird or heavy with the 275's up front. I was just looking for an equivelent tire that would look good. My biggest concerned was how the gap would look in the front. I already ordered them nyway. So if they look like ****, i guess I will sell them and go back to 275. But the side pic of the FR500 does not look so bad. Thanks..
