Gotta take out the radio to install a upr tach bracket. Anyone here have some tips on getting it out? Instructions say use a coat hanger or buy a tool from ford dealership.....?

Re: removing radio/cd
Isnt the removal tool 2 U shaped pieces? I think they may sell them at wal mart if you dont want to use a coat hanger.

Re: removing radio/cd
What vehicle is it for? If its for the 01-04 Mustang the bezel around the shifter pops out, then the trim around the radio and climate controls pops out, and two 7mm bolts hold the radio in.
If it's for an older model ford you can use coat hangers, carefully... you don't want to jam the ears. I know bestbuy sells the ford removal tools for cheap. A lot of the time you can go by an audio shop and if they are not busy they can just slide them out. I know I do and do not charge. Takes all of 3 seconds. |

Re: removing radio/cd
On the 2003 model you must pop the trim bezel around the shifter out, then the bezel around the radio and climate controls. (The one that holds the defrost, traction, and fog light buttons.) Once you do that the radio comes out with two 7mm bolts. Our model does not use the Ford radio removal tools. Still an easy job.

My older Ford pickups and my 2000 Expedition had the 4 holes on the face of the radio for removal. If you don't see the holes on the face then you don't need the tool. I used a welding rod to make my own tool back in 1992. You shouldn't need this tool for our cars. Here's a photo of what the holes look like on the radio. You just have to insert the tool into the holes which should fit very snug then just slide the radio out. I bet thieves loved this option. |

Yes, you will need the tool. Take the bezel off so you can get a grip of it. Use the coat hanger. It's cake. Just cut the ends of it off so you have two "U" shaped pieces. Stick them in the holes. Not too far though and then pull it out. I don't remember if it had two bolts on the bottom as well or not. It's pretty easy.
