Tranny fluid change?

So I had an MGW installed and am not happy with my 1-2shifts. Too notchy still going into second. I was hoping the MGW would make it go away. That's what I've read anyways and my friends' feels smoother than mine going into 2nd. Same tranny and shifter.

I was told to switch to synthetic tranny fluid. It would help with the shifts.

I only have 25,000 miles on it and am not sure if I should go for it?

Will it be worth doing?

If I do go for it, which fluid should I use? Amsoil? Redline?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Re: Tranny fluid change?

how long have you had the shifter? If you just put it in, you should give it some time.

Re: Tranny fluid change?

It's only been a couple of weeks with it.

What's average break-in period for a shifter?

Mine seemed to get smoother in about 1000 miles. Also make sure that your clutch cable doesn't have too much slack as that will cause the clutch to not fully engage and you'll have difficulty shifting.

The only issue with mine is 1-2 shift. 2-3 shift is just beautiful. Same with the rest of the gears.

I'll give it some time I guess.

Re: Tranny fluid change?

It's a Mustang short shifter, it will be notchy. Infact the MGW is the most notchy SS I've had. The best non notchy one I've owned was the Pro50. I would never give up the MGW for another shifter though! I'm a monster with that thing and some powershifts. Pro50 is a close second but just doesn't feel that....precise.
