2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

$45k for a 2012 Boss today or wait a few months and get 2013 GT500 for 60k? Which one and why?

Will be left completely stock.

Discuss.

I say gt 500 since it will actually have good suspension since it will now be built by svt not Shelby

2013 for sure. way more options, they are upgrading so many things down to the interior. just wait. it will be worth it. research the new options the 2013's are getting.

I mean, if your leaving it stock its pretty clear what the answer is: how fast do you want to go?

Huh? The current generation GT500 has always been built by Ford, on the same assembly line as every other Mustang. The only time Shelby got involved was if you wanted to turn it into a Super Snake, or a KR.

Don't forget the 2006-07 Hertz GT-H's and the 2007-08 Shelby GT's!.

And Shelby GT's were PRE-title cars. Not like the GT350's where you must buy the car first and then ship it to Shelby yourself.

Re: 2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

Depends on if Money is an issue and what you want to do with the car. The 2013/14 Shelby GT-500 will be like the 1969/70 Boss 429's were years ago, the last of a Muscle Mustang with big motor generation. The 2015 and beyond with be a different Mustang with "World car" appeal. Not that that's a bad thing but it will be different from the present platform with smaller engines likely eco-boosted or a 5.0 hopefully.

The present Shelby GT-500 (2011/12 models) are slightly faster than the Boss but a little heavier and with all the amenities to make normal driving comfortable. I think it's funny that some people are complaining about the new Boss 302's because they lack those certain comfort amenities. They forget the purpose of the Boss 302.

I've got a feeling that the dealer prices on the 2012 Shelby GT-500's will really drop once the 2013's start showing up on lots and you could probably pick one up for not much more than a 2012 Boss 302. I was able to get a 2011 GT-500 for $46K 18 months ago and it was MSRP stickered over $50K. The aluminum block 2011 and '12 Shelby's are fantastic cars in handling and performance. Another 100 rwhp is just a pulley and tune away if you want it. I think the 2013's will be hard to get and overpriced for a while.

I would have included those, but we were talking about GT500's, not the Shelby GT, Hertz GT, and GT350, which are all based off a regular production Mustang GT.

Re: 2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

I say 2013 School Bus Yellow LS Boss and a 2013 Blacked out GT500

Now where did I put that lottery ticket

To answer your original question, I'll choose the Boss for it's rarity.

Re: 2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

Hard to go wrong either way, but I think I'd lean towards a 2013 Boss. You'd still have an awesome car and save a few thousand. Though, putting each behind a door, closing your eyes, and picking one would work too.

Re: 2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

Put it to you this way, if you can (easily) afford the 2013 Shelby GT500 at FULL PRICE, then just avoid the hassle and headaches and buy the Boss 302. Then the leftover/remaining money that would have been spent on the GT500 (including tax, license, etc.), can be sent to me for helping you SAVE a good chunk of change on buying/choosing a vehicle! I'm LXS, your helpful and friendly car liason!

The GT500 since 2007 has been produced at Ford's Flat Rock, MI, plant, so 2013 is no different.

OOPS - Already covered above!

Re: 2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

Bill made a couple good points. When I was in ordering my new E350 a couple months ago they had a GT500 sitting in the showroom. It was the exact color combo and iterior package I'm interested in. They were really willing to deal on it. However when I went back to pick up my van after a couple of months of waiting I was talking to him about the new 2013 GT500s. According to him the numbers are going to be limited, he said they would be lucky to get 1 and it already had a deposit and several people in line.

And according to everything I've read in Car and Driver, Road & Track, ect, they are going to make as many as they can sell.

Re: 2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

2013 GT500 will have AWESOME upgrade possibilities. Most won't be able to grasp what can be done with just bolt ons(very similar to the KR in that respect). If you're an hp nut and have the money, get one.

Re: 2012 Boss vs. 2013 GT500

For me at least, there does comes a point where a vehicle has so much power, you spend more time babysitting the throttle more so then enjoying the power.

For me, anything over 500bhp on the street is more then enough. That Boss 302 has gobs for power and I'm sure there is untapped power if one needs more. The Bos will eat up track days about as well as anything else made, and is much more unique. Also I'm old school, if you can run normally aspirated and beat a blown car, I call that a win-win.
