96 teksid and crank

would it be wise to buy a 96 cobra teksid stock shortblock and re- use the stock crank? is the crank forged? found one for a deal and want to make sure i can use forged pistons and rods with this block/crank combo.

also, what modifications will be needed to bolt up 04 mach heads and terminator timing cover?

thanks

Re: 96 teksid and crank

use the block...get your own rotating assembly....

using termi front cover and heads install will be straight forward

looking to push somewhere in the 550 range, so the stock 96 crank won't hold up?

I am sure it will hold no prob....usually the crank doesnt fail....it is rods or pistons.

Re: 96 teksid and crank

looking to get manley rods, what pistons would hold up to 600 hp with a compression ratio between 9:1 and 10:1 without breaking the bank? block may be bored .020 over

what Power adder are you using?? centri, PD or turbo...? I am a fan of diamond pistons.
Make sure you upgrade your rod bolts if you use manley's...

Re: 96 teksid and crank

will be using an eaton off of a cobra. will probably use ARP hardware for rotating assembly. as far as head bolts what do people think of the ford racing kit that includes bolts and gaskets?

Re: 96 teksid and crank

All cobra cranks from 96-04 and Manual trans Mach 1 cranks are the same (Forged 8 bolt Kellogg pieces.) If the crank is good and doesn't need work, I would use it along with the block. The cranks are no longer offered by Ford and becoming more and more difficult to find, so if the price is right I would pick up the combo and use it.
