Harmonic Balancer ?

I have finally found the cause of my belt chirping. Wobbeling harmonic balancer.

What other parts should be replaced while doing this?

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?

the ford bolt is torque to yield, get a new bolt if the new dampner doesnt provide one. If the new bolt is TTY use the ford torque sequence, if its reusable you torque to the provided torque spec (arp and innovators west both said 90ft lbs)

Good deal. Should I replace the pulley as well?

it may not be necessary but I would much rather deal with shelling out $12 for another TTY bolt then deal with one snapped off inside the crank.

the dampner /pulley ring assembly, the ring is attached to the center section view a piece of rubber its bonded to. If you buy a factory piece itll be two pieces again, aftermarket units are one piece. Just be aware that the grooved pulley ring CAN and WILL remove itself from the vehicle as myself and few others can attest to

The Damper (balancer/pulley) is wobbling because it's seperating. Replace the damper, the bolt can be reused and tq it to 95ft lbs. I can send you a damper if you pay the shipping.

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?

After digging up some reviews on here. It seems that the Fluidampr is the way to go. Weighs less and appears to be just a better made piece than stock. Looking online I cant seem to find which one I need. I choose my car, size of motor, year model etc.... That narrows it down to two choices but they are both 6 rib. Im running an 8 rib belt. Am I missing something?

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?

The March Fluid Damper is not made for an 8 rib belt. The company "FluidDampr" also does not make an 8 rib damper.

I take it that the reason you have an 8 rib damper is because you have a supercharger. If so, your only options would be an 8 rib 5.4 damper or aftermarket units such as those made by ATI or Innovators West.

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?

gonna throw my .02 in for ya.
I would listen to the idler pulley and the tensioner pulley while the car is running and swap those while you have the belt loose if they are making noise.
they are $12 to $15 and were worth replacing while I had mine off.
Much quieter now.

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?

I went with an Innovators West setup. I was kinda shocked at the price of this thing but it will be nice to have it fixed. The more I look into it, the more I'm scared to tackle this job myself. I don't have a lot of mechanical experience. What experiences have you guys had changing this thing out?

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?

Finally got it on this week. What an awesome feeling. No annoying squeaks and the engine is much smoother with the new damper.

Re: Harmonic Balancer ?

Hmmmm looking at that, could that be an underdrive pulley that is safe??? Balancer and pulley are separate

pretty sure thats a 2 belt pulley....the balancer itself is setup for the accessory drive belt and then he bolts on the quick swap ring for the blower belt
