T56 swap? Deal or no deal?
I've been wanting to do a T56 swap in the Mach for a while now and a friend of mine told me he knows a guy selling one out of a 700hp Terminator. The guy told my buddy its a stock Cobra T56 with a 26 spline input shaft, a Spec stg 3+ clutch, aluminum flywheel and a driveshaft for $1500. I'm told he's getting some kind of built manual trans so I'm not sure if he's including the bell housing or not. Is it a good deal and what else would I need to complete the swap? I know I need some kind of U-joint for the rear end for the drive shaft to work, to extend some wiring for the reverse lights and possibly a bell housing. Is the linkage or clutch fork different?

Re: T56 swap? Deal or no deal?
That's a hell of a deal if it is still in good condition. By the time I was done with my t56 swap I was almost $3k in. You will also need a bellhousing, shifter and crossmember. The cable and fork are the same. I switched the pinion flange because it seemed more solid. If you don't want to open the rear diff, just use the old u-joint from the 3650 driveshaft.

Re: T56 swap? Deal or no deal?
thats a nice deal, if you do get it I would still take it to get a trans shop to get it checked out and your drive shaft balanced. Thats what I did, I got new synchros, and my driveshaft rebalanced (it was way off) with reinforced u joints.

Re: T56 swap? Deal or no deal?
Sorry, I miss-typed. If you go that route, you need a hybrid u-joint but use the 3650 flange (which is what I meant to say). The Cobra uses a 1350 joint and the Mach 1330 if I recall correctly. The flange on the cobra is also bigger so the bolts won't line up to the pinion flange on the Mach diff.

No wires needed to be extended. The reverse lockout you will need to buy a GM pigtail for and wire it yourself, most common is to the brake. The Mach ECU doesn't control the lockout like the Cobra.

Depending on how you drive your car, you might want to get it viper spec'd, mine came viper'd I called a trans shop to see what the kit goes for and they quoted me $1600 installed.

Re: T56 swap? Deal or no deal?
The T56 is a solid transmission. The 10-spline is usually what goes on them so you should be fine. For peace of mind get someone to inspect it.
