Mach 1 vs 5.0 GT

Ok check it out, the new GT is about 10 years newer than the mach 1, my mach has 14K miles on it, last year it had 2800 miles anyway the newer GT has all the new gadgets right...and also over 100HP more at the crank than the mach 1, and with the right tune the 5.0 gets crazy lol, but like with the mach 1 i have a good tune putting me at 328rwhp, but if i were to get my 4v to match the new GT's HP i would be getting like 10mpg lol while the new one has over 400hp stock and gets over 20mpg....i dont get it...i didnt get my mach 1 for the sheer superior performance of it, i got it for the rarity of the Azure blue. anyone want to put their thoughts in? any ideas? general topic

I made over 460 to the wheels with a P1 on my car at 10psi and when I kept my foot of out gas mileage was not greatly affected...

yes it has updated creature comforts and no longer on a platform older than most of us with new updated suspension and stuff as well.

The 5.0 is not without its issues (the whole #8 thing) and a slew of complaints about the 6speed trans (although quite a few people seem to have had good luck using a different clutch/pressure plate assembly)

it just depends on what ya want man...you can do a lot to your car for the price of a new GT before you start modding it or you can move up to a better base and dump money from there

no real question, just a general discussion about how the new gt gets about twice the mpg i would get if i had the same stock hp as it..lol its crazy...how was the mileage with a p-1?

A former co-worker of mine has a '04 Cobra around 430rwhp and he was getting 25mpg+ on the highway. Probably high teens in the city. You can get decent mileage if you just drive normal.

I'm sure you could build up your motor and get a Gearvendors over/under drive and it would be cheaper than a new GT (and more unique)...

Just a tune is going to gain you 40-50 rwhp?

HP at the crank on the 5.0 is closer to 150 more hp.

Remember the 6 speed tranny is going to help mileage on the highway. Along with 3.31 rear gear ratio. I think you get 3.73s with the track pack.

To answer your question, I wonder if it would be bc of a leaner computer program and better flowing heads/exhaust, intake?

I have an 04 mach and 11 gt/cs vert. They are different cars in how the ride, drive, etc. The 5.0 is smooth. The mach is smaller; and feels more nimble. I get a little better mpg driving to work in the mach 1; and a good bit better when the foot is heavy. Put a 5.0 in a new edge with a tko and have the best of both worlds

The 6spd still has 1 od gear; 5th is 1:1. Engine design and sw programming for the win!

I have 410rwhp and still get 18mpg city driving, 26mpg highway with 4.10s, it's all in how you drive. If I get into boost lots, mileage drops like a rock haha. And to answer your question, that's technology, of course a newer car with a more developed engine is going to be faster and more effecient.

I just made the swap from the mach to a 13 gt. There are plusses and minuses to both.

The mach is smaller and lighter, but is slower (even if mine was faster than the stock 5.0, it won't take anywhere the amt of money I had in the mach to make this blow it out of the water), and handles worse, which makes me wonder if there really is a point to lighter in the mach...

The uniqueness of the mach, yep, absolutely if you're into that sort of thing. It didn't do much for me, except made me replace the busted chin spoiler because it hit everything, everytime, everywhere.

Mine had a t56 swapped in, had plenty of boltons, and was plenty reliable, but it was rough compared to the new 5.0. coilovers groan, solid bushings meant lots of road noise, exhaust was retardedly loud, scraped everywhere, etc. Mileage was about the same.

As for the cost difference, I added 14k to what I sold the mach for and got the new gt with recaros and automatic. For that money i could have had a coyote swap in the mach, and I'd still be left with a 35 year old platform that squeaks and groans everytime. I don't have a credit card that big, but was able to finance 14k quite easy. Plus, after owning the mach for 10 years, it was time for a change. You could make a mach1 stupid fast with 14k, absolutely, but it would be a helluva lot more work.

Depends on what you're doing, even stock both have their niches.

Daily Driver: '13 GT with track pack and Recaros is obviously faster, better handling and more civilized.

Saturday Night Cruise-in: I'm taking the Mach 1; more style, more soul/character and going to get more interest.

Different cars, different personalities...
