In need of a rear diff, gears, and axle shafts

I am looking for a good 31 spline diff with axle shafts for my 8.8.
Along with 4.10 gears. Would like to get this all together here soon as my reared is getting pretty loud.

Re: wtb: rear diff

just pull a Solid rear axle from a Explorer at your local boneyard. If memory serves, all SRAs are trac-lok 31 spline and will bolt right up. Shipping on what you're looking for would exceed just buying brand new from Late Model or American Muscle. F 150s also have 31 spline diffs but the axles would be to long.

Haven't heard much on the Explorer and F-150 Diffs. Are they pretty good for track use or would It just be better getting my Truetrac like im aiming for?

Explorer and F150 are the same as a GT except they are 31 spline. I had a truetrack and returned it. Sounded like I had a box of marbles in the trunk. Eaton aacknowledged they had issues with 8.8's on decel.

Probably a dumb question, but when you say it will bolt right up do you mean the entire Explorer rearend will bolt into the Mustang, or just the gears and axle into the Mustang rearend.

I have a bad carrier bering and just want to install a new rearend with my brakes so I can drive the car again. I'll rebuild the original at some point in the future when I have time.

I would like the answer to this as well.

Just the 31 spline carrier and gears is all you can use. From my past experience with that carrier, go with Trutrac. Do a 31 spline Trac Loc search on here and you'll see what I went thru with it although some will disagree.

Re: wtb: rear diff

An explorer or f150 diff or 05+ mustang diff is a good inexpensive upgrade. You can just rebuild it using the clutch packs from your stock diff, and it will be good to go. You'll have a good diff for ~$100.

I'll be looking into this. Are there any factory 31 spline axles that fit our cars? I already have a free 05+ rear end, but I was told the axles are too long.

I appreciate the tip, but time and money are limiting factors for me. I need something cheap that I can bolt up in a weekend. I don't have the tools or skill to rebuild a rear end at this time or I would just rebuild the one in the car now. I hope to do that in the future though.

A couple of shops said they would do it for $900, but that is out of the question at the moment.

I prowled the salvage yard last weekend, but only found rears from V6 Mustangs. The price was right at $200 but I hope to do better than 2:73 non-locking.

Other than a rear from a 03-04 GT or Mach1, are there any other easy bolt-on rears?
BTW, I have an 03 Mach1.

Thanks...

Re: wtb: rear diff

If the problem really is the carrier bearing. Keep the same gears and just swap the carrier bearing on your current diff. No special tools required. <$100 job including new oil, just have someone press on the new bearings for you. Our local NAPA charged my buddy $10. The stock carrier shims are one piece, easy in and out. All you need is wrenches, sockets, torque wrench (can rent), and a flat head screwdriver.

I hear what you're saying but I still have concerns. First I was told it was Probably the wheel bearing, and there was a mm or two of vertical play in the axle shaft at the bearing, so I took a few weekends to replace them but it didn't solve the noise problem. I'm afraid I'm going to dig into the carrier bearing replacement and discover yet another prob like overly worn gears or something, and my car will be down for an extended period of time while I figure out a solution.
I've pulled brakes and swapped rears on a Fox body in a day, so I was hoping to do the same here. If my only plug-n-play option is another Mustang rear, then I will keep looking. I was hoping there were other cars in the salvage yard with 100% compatible rears.

Re: wtb: rear diff

I have frpp 31 spline, frpp 410s and summit racing 31 spline axles. They have approx 500 miles max before my engine produced a minor rod knock. Do you want to buy the entire rear end? It's painted black with new seals, shims, wheel studs, etc..
